How to speed up torrent downloads?

Is there any way to actually speed up my torrent downloads?
I’m running BitTorrent, and usually, everything crawls along at about 220 kb/s—which is already pathetic
but now I’m trying to grab some Formula 1 files and it won't even break 30 kb/s
Also, does anyone actually know if having more seeds is better than having more leechers?

Seriously, can we please just stop wasting time with these kinds of topics already!!!

It all comes down to how many seeders there are—the more people sharing, the faster your download goes... obviously.!!!

If there are more leechers than anything else, then yeah, it will.😁
It isn't always a guarantee that you'll get fast speeds either; for instance, if you have 20 seeders and 5 leechers, those 20 people might all have their upload speeds capped at a tiny 5 kb/sec.

By the way, you're acting more like a leech than a seeder.
A leech is basically a parasite😁 that just sucks everything up without giving back.

seeder - someone with the full file who keeps it live for everyone else to grab

leecher - anyone currently downloading the file. They can technically upload pieces they've already finished, but usually, their upload speed is way lower than what they're pulling down.

Having a ton of leechers isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want fast speeds, but it’s a disaster if nobody is seeding anything—or if people are just sucking up bandwidth ten times faster than they give back. I’ve been in situations where the seeder count stayed at zero for my entire session. Luckily, people were chipping in tiny bits here and there, so eventually, everyone grabbed the pieces they were missing. That’s really the whole point of torrenting. I'm not saying the speeds were amazing, but it's better than trying to download a single CD at 2 kB instead of 20 kB.😉

I was just pulling a movie—one of the newest releases—at about 180 kb/sec, but man, it absolutely tanks my entire internet connection the moment I start.

You have a set bandwidth limit from your ISP, so it’s perfectly logical that the connection would slow down when you max it out.
