Intel Core i5-3570K

I recently picked up this processor on eBay, and it arrived with the stock Intel cooler. I’m pretty happy with the purchase, but there is one issue. The fan on the CPU cooler gets incredibly loud whenever I'm gaming.

I'm not sure if this is normal behavior. I used to run an Intel Core i3-2120 with the stock Intel cooler, and it was practically silent. For context, my current setup has 8GB of 1600 MHz RAM, an ASUS GTX 970, and an ASUS P8H77-M motherboard...

It’s totally normal for your CPU temperature to climb while you're gaming—especially if the title you're playing is more processor-heavy than GPU-heavy. In those cases, the fan has to ramp up to prevent overheating, which is why you're hearing that extra "noise." If you're looking to upgrade, you could easily pick up a different cooler; this one would be 👍

I get what you're saying, but when I was playing Dark Souls on my old processor, it ran at 100% load just to hit 25 FPS, and it was silent. Now, even with ultra settings, I'm getting 60 FPS at about 60% load, yet the fan is significantly louder.

I suspect the stock cooler that came with the CPU isn't much to write home about, and I'd rather not bother swapping the old one out right now. I'll handle that once I pick up an M.2 drive and see how things look then.

So, what do you mean you don't feel like doing it? You have a superior cooler sitting right there ready to go, yet you're hesitating because the stock one is too loud? I’m not trying to call you out here, I just don't quite follow the logic, haha. You basically have a free upgrade staring you in the face. Correct me if I'm wrong, but why wait?

Wait, did you swap in that cooler you used for the i3, or are you running the one that came with the i5?
