IP address conflict pop-up error

I’ve been getting this pop-up jump out at me a few times now:

Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your system administrator for help resolving this issue.More details are available in the macOS system log.

What does this actually mean—has someone somehow broken into my computer from inside the house?🤔

Go ahead and double-check your IP settings on your computer—it really needs to be set to automatic or DHCP.

First, you should check your computer settings to ensure a static IP hasn't been assigned...
If that isn't the case, simply open the Command Prompt—you can just type "cmd" into the search bar to bring up the window—and run the command ipconfig /release first—don't forget to hit enter—followed by ipconfig /renew.
