Italian Proverbs

Hey, can the religion mods please tell me why my comment on the thread about the new University of California, Berkeley rector got nuked? I was just linking to that open letter where Father Stojic writes back to Paul Močic after he sent his own letter to the new rector.

There’s this old saying: "Avvocato non chiamato con la merda va pagato."

I was basically just trying to give Father Stojic some friendly advice to stay out of the fray, because honestly, nobody's going to thank him for jumping into this mess.

Basically, the proverb means "don't get involved, because no one will be grateful and you'll just end up knee-deep in crap."

Or maybe the moderator is just really good at Italian and decided there was some secret, hidden meaning in my words?

I removed it because you just posted a proverb without any context or explanation. Not everyone speaks Italian, Spanish, French, Russian, German... or any other language, for that matter. There's a general consensus that English is the global lingua franca today; if it had been in English, I probably would have left it alone. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the content of the proverb itself, but it would have been helpful if you had included a translation or an explanation. As it stands, dropping a random Italian proverb out of nowhere doesn't look relevant to anyone reading this thread who doesn't speak the language. You are more than welcome to share proverbs, quotes, or excerpts in a foreign language, but it would be polite to provide a connection to the discussion. 🙂
