Has anyone actually sat down and watched John Wick by Quentin Tarantino?
I’m planning on heading over to AMC Theatres to catch it, so I’d love to hear what you all think first!

This movie is just painfully pretentious, trying way too hard to be "cool," and ends up being completely incomprehensible.
Honestly, it’s a massive letdown considering his previous work... It’s one of those films that supposedly leaves room for you to sit around and overanalyze it later, but I found it so incredibly dull that I couldn't even bring myself to waste the energy wondering what the director was actually trying to say. From a narrative and screenplay standpoint, it’s incredibly weak—it’s so convoluted and clearly desperate to feel "intellectual," maybe aiming for that David Lynch vibe, but it misses the mark entirely... at least in my book. 😁
There are a few decent scenes scattered throughout, but they don't even come close to the brilliant editing sequences he used to pull off in his older stuff, which is why I liked him in the first place. One thing that really rubbed me the wrong way, though—he uses manga at one point, in a way very similar to how Quentin Tarantino did in Kill Bill, except here it felt totally pointless and confusing, just thrown in there arbitrarily. I don't get why he even bothered; it’s something we’ve already seen, and it isn't even a motif you can actually play with or expand upon (if you know 😁 what I mean). On the flip side, Ray Liotta is fantastic as always, but personally, I don't think this was the right move for his career. 😬

Anyway, go ahead and watch it if you want—at the very least, you'll have something to trash afterward. 😁(Or maybe not... to each their own, I guess 😍).

I just can't bring myself to watch it. To me, this feels like a desperate attempt to recapture old magic after that total disaster with the Madonna movie.

I actually think the movie holds up quite well. It seems like people just love to act intellectually superior and tear everything living apart. 😁

Go watch it and try to follow along if you can. You’ll probably need the mental effort. 👍

What a total mess... I think I’m still seeing things from those brain-dead monologues and that absolutely idiotic ending.

Next time, I might just get drunk instead of going to see some Richie's garbage.🤮

Yeah, I thought that part was totally stupid and confusing too. Like, who on earth decides to throw in those animated sequences? It felt completely unnecessary and a bit much. That’s actually where I started feeling like something was off. The movie started out okay for me, and I was feeling alright about it until that elevator scene where everything just goes to hell. After that, the whole thing turns into this pretentious psychological carousel with no real beginning or end. I think the movie would have been way better if it had just stayed a decent, middle-of-the-road crime thriller during the second half. Instead, it just totally blew it.

Confused? And honestly, wtf? 😕 I genuinely have no clue what the writer was trying to pull there. To be fair, I’m not even entirely sure if I actually liked the movie or not—I might need to sleep on it before I make a final call... The first half of the film felt pretty standard, you know, like a typical gangster flick, but then the second half... man, where did it even go? It just completely lost its way. Some of the scenes were decent enough, mostly the ones from the first half, like that restaurant scene. If anyone actually managed to wrap their head around the plot, please, by all means, explain it to me so I can understand 😬 I'm feeling a little lost

I guess we all learned a little lesson today: maybe just don't watch movies out of pure desperation. Not worth it, I suppose. 😬 It’s also worth doing some prep work, I guess... you know, scrolling through the internet, checking out some reviews, maybe seeing what the critics are saying and stuff like that. 😁 😁 )

Honestly, I’m not really a fan of reading reviews before seeing a movie because, more often than not, I end up loving or hating a film regardless of what the critics say, plus I usually just look up the basic premise anyway. But man, who could have possibly predicted that Quentin Tarantino would turn out to be this pretentious?😁

Anyway, I’m with you on the whole critic situation, but I don't think I've ever experienced a time where one of those movies that everyone absolutely trashes turns out to be good (well, maybe not "good," but at least not totally terrible)
