I don't really listen to Metallica, though I definitely respect them. It’s just that everyone listens to them, you know? That kind of popularity actually puts me off a bit (same goes for Iron Maiden). I prefer finding things that feel a little more unique. I tend to lean toward "alternative" stuff, even if that label isn't technically accurate—at the end of the day, every band has its own merits.

..I find myself revisiting them from time to time, just to refresh my memory... and every single time, I end up realizing they’re actually better than I remembered last time. It’s a bit of a loop, really. My takeaway? Things just wouldn't feel the same without them.😎

I’m right there with ambertinker77 on this one... their stuff is just pure legend status. You could probably loop their discography a hundred times and you'd still stumble upon some fresh layer or a bit of originality in every single track. It never gets old.

Man, I used to love this band. Honestly, they’re still my favorites and the ones I listen to most, but that last album was a real letdown.

The issue isn't just one bad album, though. The overall musicianship has slipped, and what bugs me most is the vocals—James Hetfield’s voice has definitely "declined," if you know what I mean.

That edge is gone. Looking back at the 1987–1993 era, the beast sounded like they were spitting venom.

But they did this small tour this year, sort of an escape from the studio, and they called it that. It totally caught me off guard.
For me, 2003–2005 was the absolute rock bottom for Metallica. As someone who's been listening for over 18 years, I'm telling you, it was the pathetic, lowest point I've ever seen. Hard to believe a band could fall that far.

However, like I said, those shows this year were phenomenal. The playing, the stage presence—it was all great. They haven't sounded this good in a long time. And they nailed it show after show. Just solid.

It gives me some hope that the next album might actually be good, and it makes me want to catch them live again. A Metallica show is a spectacle. You have to experience it; it’s not just a concert, it's something on a scale I can't even put into words. 😁 😳

I completely agree with the idea that you find something new in their songs every time you listen. When I switch to other bands, some get old fast, while others I'll revisit. But when I put on Metallica, nobody else even comes close.😈 🙏

They aren't terrible, even if they have been getting pretty pathetic lately.
St. Anger is a total joke compared to their older stuff, but I heard they’re playing full albums live now, which is actually a huge win.

I was riding with Metallica right up until The Black Album dropped. Everything after that? Pure commercial trash, an absolute train wreck. Honestly, screw them—they’d sell their souls for a quick buck. I mean, what was the point of that whole symphony orchestra concert thing? Total overkill. It’s a good thing they didn't have a band like Journey opening for them... just a total DISASTER. Might as well have recorded a duet with Shakira and called it a day. Scumbags. But those first four albums? Respect. Everything else is garbage and pure Overproduction. They just wanted to stack the cash.

Everything that followed, though... it just doesn't sit right with me, especially considering that recent pile of garbage they put out...
It’s truly a shame to see how far they've drifted from their roots. Honestly, Hetfield should have never stopped singing...

A lot of these self-proclaimed "hardcore metalheads" call him soft now, but he’s more of a man than any of them will ever be. Actually, better to say he's more of a human being.

Man, people don't get it. If the last album you actually liked was And Justice for All, that was nearly two decades ago. It's about time you moved on and stopped whining. That version of Metallica hasn't existed for fifteen years, yet somehow fans still act like spoiled brats, demanding the band play fast, stay aggressive, grow their hair long, and get wasted—just so they have some "real metal" band to brag about.

The reality is these guys are in their 40s now. They have families and kids. They've realized that if they want to raise their children and actually see them grow up, they have to change how they live.
Of course that changes the music.

You expect them to be rebels? Give me a break. Hetfield takes his daughter to ballet classes every week. He plays with his kids and spends most of his time sober with his family. Yet, pissed-off metal fans think that's "bad"—that he needs to be a rebel, drink, swear on stage, and ruin his life just to satisfy them.

I guess some people think it's "cool" to stumble home high, bloated, and maybe even lay a hand on their wife or kid. That's what they're looking for.🙄

I find myself in total agreement with what Gary Anderson38 was saying—it’s far too easy to spiral into trouble, isn't it? One really has to possess the necessary skill to navigate their way back out... which means, quite frankly, all Hetfield needs to do is 🙏
