Alexander Ames just dropped a trailer for his new flick. I was actually a huge fan of his work on High Tension—that bloody romance was intense—and I loved Hill Has Eyes too. He’s got Bauer 😁 along with Kiefer Sutherland and Amy Smart in the cast. Personally, the trailer looks promising; I'm really hoping this turns out to be something special.

I happened to spot a movie poster the other day that caught my eye, so I checked out the trailer and... well... it doesn't exactly look like anything groundbreaking
Still, I think I'll give the whole thing a watch anyway; maybe it’ll actually surprise me 😁

I just stumbled upon some info suggesting that Mirror is actually a remake of that 2003 Korean film, Google...
I’ve never been much of a fan when it comes to those kinds of remakes—they rarely hit the mark for me—but I suppose this one might actually turn out okay. I watched High Tension by that French director a while back, and I have to say, it wasn't half bad.

Honestly, if I don’t hear some lines like "Where is the bomb? Tell me! Dammit!" or "Dammit Audrey!", I might just skip the movie entirely (just kidding). 😬 😬

I heard that even though the movie is set in New York City, they shot the whole thing in Romania because it’s a much cheaper option. Americans are just getting way too expensive...

It’s been ages—well, since the last Circle meeting, anyway—but we finally have a decent, high-quality take on Asian horror. The film actually leans into that specific Asian cinematic philosophy as much as Hollywood allows; there are plenty of unsettling moments and a psychological weight that caught me totally off guard... especially since everyone expects a mindless blockbuster once they see Kiefer Sutherland in the cast. Given he's more of a TV icon than anything else these days, you'd expect them to just milk his name for cash...

If this is going to earn a solid 5 from me, though, it'll be because the writers leaned way too hard on a tired old trope: Kiefer playing some washed-up cop and recovering alcoholic trying to win back his wife and kids...

A decent film...

If my memory serves me right, the movie actually includes a second phrase that gets repeated several times. 😁 That being said, the film is genuinely poor and lacks any real terror. It's a disappointment.

It was a complete waste of time for me—just a massive disappointment.

Since I’m not really into shockers, slashers, or those "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Wrong Turn" type chainsaw horrors—I gotta say, Mirror was actually pretty decent.
It was alright, though it could've been better—some of the animation was honestly kind of rough (like: !spoiler!: that bathtub scene where the sister's jaw gets ripped out )—but overall, it's a solid one-time watch.
So, my rating? A solid 7/10.

It’s been way too long since I watched a horror flick that actually managed to jump-scare me that badly 😲

So, I finally sat down and watched it tonight... man, what a killer way to end the day 😬. I’m with you though, it’s a solid flick. Honestly, felt like such a breath of fresh air compared to all those endless teen slashers or those over-the-top Saw movies and stuff like that...

I honestly can't see the appeal here. It’s just plain boring.

See, that's a perfect example of how everyone sees movies differently🙂
personally, I thought Strangers was totally mindless. It was okay until I figured out who the strangers actually were, but after that?!?
then you just start asking questions—like, why? what's their goal? how do they manage to vanish from a wide field of vision just because you blink? seriously... plus when you remember that "based on a true story" bit... it's just stupid. plain and simple.

Mirror might not have fully nailed the concept, but it definitely fits into that super bingeable category of supernatural horror.

It’s a pretty average movie; there are a million better ones out there, so it's worth a watch if you have nothing else to do, but it isn't anything special. Ils(Them), which I caught the day before Mirror, was easily six times better in my opinion.

While watching, I just couldn't shake the image of Jack Bauer. No matter how much I tried, that series—as brilliant as it was—has completely pigeonholed Kiefer Sutherland for me. It’s hard to see him as anyone other than Agent Bauer. Every facial expression, every line delivered with that specific tone and grit, felt like a callback to his TV role rather than a distinct character from this movie. Honestly, that's the biggest drawback for me.

Another issue is the heavy-handed reliance on cheap jump scares. They use those tired old tricks, like cutting the music right before a loud noise hits, just to startle the audience. It felt pretty lazy.

That said, the plot kept me hooked, and I found myself genuinely curious about how things would wrap up. And I have to admit, the ending caught me off guard.

All in all, it wasn't a bad film. It was definitely better than that Jeopardy! Horror V mess I watched last night.
