Monitor recommendations?

hey there,

I need some solid recommendations for a new monitor, my budget is around $500. I’m mainly gonna be using it for gaming and watching movies, so quality is everything. I don't really care if it's 22, 23, or 24 inches—size isn't the dealbreaker here, the picture quality absolutely is.

I picked up an AOC i2353 and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. It’s a 23" screen with VGA, two HDMI ports, an audio jack, and built-in speakers (which aren't really worth anything, let's be real xD). It’s got a wall mount setup, LED backlighting, and an IPS panel. The menu is super fast and sleek, plus the touch buttons actually work perfectly and feel well-designed. It's only 9.2 mm thin, which is just insane...

It’s great for gaming since there's zero ghosting, and even better for movies because of that IPS matrix.

It’s a solid choice for both of you, really—no ghosting issues here either, and just like brightskipper40 mentioned, that advanced IPS panel makes all the difference.

Whatever you do, just don't pick up that Dell UltraSharp monitor. I’m certainly no professional graphic designer, and I wasn't looking for some high-end, color-accurate masterpiece, but I honestly didn't expect this level of absolute garbage. The picture quality is just catastrophic. It's like fifty shades of gray🙂 everywhere, and even then, everything changes depending on what angle you're looking at it from. I actually felt a bit crushed when I realized I couldn't even make out the thin line bordering this text box I'm typing in. To actually see the border, I have to tilt my head and look at the screen from underneath!🙂 No matter how much I try to tweak the contrast or the gamma settings, nothing works. It’s most noticeable with photos—I’m just an amateur, but I have some really nice shots, and on this thing, the colors look totally washed out, and anything yellow looks incredibly garish... Just run the other way. I sent an email asking to exchange it for something a bit more expensive, so if anyone could offer some advice, I'd appreciate it. What are you all happy with that stays under $150 and is around 22 inches?

So, folks, I finally swapped out that unfortunate Samsung for a Dell UltraSharp monitor with an IPS panel, which ended up costing me about $20 more. Honestly, what a massive difference right from the jump! 😁 I’ve gone ahead and synced up the settings on both the monitor and the graphics card, and the impression is... well, it's perfect, at least regarding the color accuracy. I don't really play games, but movies look solid—no complaints here, I am BEYOND SATISFIED. If the person who started this thread isn't some hardcore pro gamer, I’d highly recommend picking up the Dell UltraSharp monitor 👍 which goes for roughly $150, saving you about $75 in the process. Even this little text box I'm typing in looks better now; the background is actually white instead of that washed-out light gray. With the old Samsung, everything looked whitish and overexposed, and you could only see the bezel if you were looking at the monitor from a low angle. I'm still reeling from the change. The text is sharp, and the black is truly BLACK 🙂

I think I'll put a few more movies on and then I'll report back with my final thoughts 😁

It’s on. 5ms response time, and even the backlight bleed is minimal. The colors are stunning—compared to my old LG 1919 and a borrowed Samsung 2333HD, this feels like jumping from a beat-up Ford into a Ferrari. I’m seeing shades I didn't even know existed. Highly recommended.
the only minus is that it comes with a VGA cable.
