I’ve got no clue which of these two monitors is actually better, this one or Honestly, I don't know the first thing about this gear. If anyone can point me toward something better than these two within $667 some budget, maybe something with a way better picture quality 😕...

Just grab the first one you see with Full HD, a 23 or 24-inch screen, and an HDMI port...

It’s all just TN panels anyway. You’re basically buying the same thing in different packaging...
And a quick tip: steer clear of glossy screens. Once the sun starts hitting harder in the spring, you'll lose your mind staring at reflections instead of actually seeing the picture...

Unless you need pivot mode, but then there's no HDMI...

If you ask me, this one is probably your best bang for your buck...

Wait, what even is HDMI? Why do we even care about that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

It’s basically how you hook your monitor up to your PC. HDMI is pretty much the gold standard now—it handles the highest picture quality by far...
Then you've got the older stuff: VGA, DVI, D-Sub (just Google them, you'll recognize them once you see)... But look, I don't know what ports you've actually got on your graphics card, though you really need to go with HDMI. VGA is finally being phased out for good, and most modern cards haven't even bothered including it anymore...

The only real difference between HDMI and DVI is that HDMI actually carries an audio stream; as far as the video component goes, they're basically identical.

Man, a Samsung monitor is easily three tiers above that LG one—you really can't go wrong if you grab it.

Which one of these guys am I talking about? The one I just posted? I can't even deal right now. I was browsing some tech specs online and stumbled onto this piece of gear—basically just a standard black laptop case/sleeve—and it's got me thinking about how much junk gets marketed as "premium" these days. Honestly, looking at stuff like this makes me miss the days when you could just walk into a Best Buy, grab something that actually worked, and not feel like you were being scammed by fancy minimalist branding. Everything is so overpriced now. You see these sleek designs and think, "Yeah, okay, looks cool," but then you realize you're paying an extra fifty bucks just because the logo looks expensive. It’s a joke. It reminds me of that time I tried to buy a specialized sleeve for my old MacBook at a boutique shop in downtown Chicago. The guy behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy for asking if it had any actual padding, then tried to upsell me on a "designer leather" version that felt like thin cardboard. Total rip-off. Anyway, I don't know. Is it just me, or is everything becoming more about the aesthetic and less about whether the damn thing actually protects your tech? Just feels like we're all getting played.

At that price point, this is quite clearly the best buy

I was actually hoping Micronis might have had something a bit more budget-friendly in stock, but naturally, they’re impossible to track down right now. 😁
edit: Actually, turns out Telebit does have it, and it's even cheaper.

Yeah, that one—or the one Jamie Ramos5 posted. Honestly, the only real catch is that the IPS panel on that Dell monitor is a bit sluggish for actual gaming... you know, when you're playing high-FPS shooters or racing games and need that response time.

I could really use some advice here! I’m on the hunt for a new monitor—nothing bigger than 19 inches, please—but I'd love to keep the price under $500 if possible. I actually used to have an old Samsung SyncMaster 172x, and honestly? I was so happy with it. It served me incredibly well for years. So, if you guys have any recommendations for something reliable and solid, I'd be so grateful!
