Mouse and keyboard issues

So, I've run into a bit of a headache... I usually pride myself on my typing, but this glitchy computer of mine just won't cooperate. Most of the time everything works perfectly fine, but then suddenly—bam—it acts like this...

Basically, for some reason I can't explain, when I hold down Shift plus a letter, nothing happens. Then, once I let go of Shift, it just spits out a lowercase letter. And get this—if I try to type several letters while holding Shift, absolutely nothing appears until I release the key; then, it dumps all those letters out at once, but they're all lowercase and completely out of order! I tried messing around with my language settings to fix it, but now I can't even switch back to my standard American layout—it’s stuck acting like a US system setting. On top of that, if I try to type quickly, the letters get all jumbled and it starts mixing uppercase and lowercase even though I haven't touched Caps Lock or the Shift key.

And as for the mouse—it keeps performing double-clicks when I only click once. I've already tested it with several different mice and keyboards, switching between wireless and optical ones, but the result is always the same...

I thought maybe it was an issue with the slots on the motherboard, but both the keyboard and mouse are connected via USB—specifically, they're plugged into the front panel ports.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this mess?

The only thing I can really help you with is the language settings. If you've switched the whole system language, just look at your taskbar in the bottom right corner—you know, near the volume icon, the hidden icons, and the Wi-Fi symbol... there should be a language bar showing whatever language is currently active. On my machine, it shows US. Just click that icon and pick from the list. That’s how it works on W7, though I'm not sure if it's any different on XP or W8.

If you don't mind, I'll toss my own issue into this thread too... felt like the right spot.

My function keys X, Y, Z aren't responding. Anyone know how to get them working again?...

Try swapping out for a different keyboard first. I don't see any point in intentionally cutting certain keys in and out like that...

I managed to fix the language settings, but my keyboard and mouse are still acting up... It’s getting ridiculous at this point—especially since I occasionally pick up some freelance gigs doing 3D modeling or Photoshop work for a little extra cash. I can't get anything done because my mouse just goes haywire on its own. And don't even get me started on the keyboard. Writing becomes an absolute nightmare, and if I ever tried to play a game that relies on 'WASD' for movement? Forget about it. It just keeps stuttering—starting and stopping constantly—until the day I die, or at least until I reboot. Once I restart the computer, things run smoothly for a bit, but more often than not, the whole mess repeats itself after about 20 minutes.

Have you tried plugging a different keyboard and/or mouse into those specific ports?
Did you get a chance to test the problematic gear on another computer?

What brands are we talking about for the keyboard and mouse that are acting up?
