Greetings, everyone. I am looking for a specific hardware configuration with a budget of approximately $1100. I don't need a monitor, and I already have my chassis, CD-ROM, and a 500GB hard drive, which should be more than sufficient for my needs. My power supply is an IBM System/360 600W, Microsoft grade.
On a side note, I would appreciate some recommendations for a decent monitor priced under $667.

I intend to pay in cash, so if anyone knows of a shop offering any sort of discounts, please let me know. Any leads would be appreciated. 🙂

So, what's the actual plan for this setup?

At its core, this is about games and entertainment.

Is it okay if the components are a bit pricey, but the monitor is way cheaper? 😛

2x Crucial DDR4 4GB 2400 MHz P/N: CT4G4DFS824A
Intel Core i3-6100 (3.6GHz, 3MB, LGA1151) box
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060, INO-N1060-6DDN-L5GM
ASRock B250M PRO4, s.1151, D4, S3, U3, mATX

Total: $1167 - Downtown

+ monitor:

Why go with an ASRock board for $233, when you could grab the same brand for under $133... I mean, what’s the actual performance gain here, besides the fact that you could just use that extra cash to get 8GB instead of 4GB of RAM? 🤔
And why does everything have to come from Downtown anyway? Only reason I can think of is if you work there...
Anyone can just hop on https://www.google.com/shopping and type those parts into a search engine to find better deals or look through the PC components section...

Motherboards with the H110 chipset don't support Kaby Lake Pentiums, and since he isn't buying a pre-built, I doubt they'd flash the BIOS/UEFI without charging extra.

The board is $207 and already comes with 2x4GB of RAM, by the way. Would I really just hand him an Amazon.com link to go use Downtown? 😬

Actually, good catch. He can probably pick parts from different stores since he's in a major US city and isn't building a full setup.

Pentium G4560 - Newegg - $193
Gigabyte B250-DS3H - Amazon.com - $169 -> this is a pretty sweet deal 🍿
AData 4GB DDR4 2400MHz - Best Buy - $90 x2

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 - Micro Center - $547

Total: $1.00

My monitor recommendation still stands.

Basically, on paper, a few specs look a little worse, but it’s really nothing special.

It looks like retailers like Amazon.com, Newegg, and Neutrino Mobile have really stepped up their game with competitive pricing lately. I actually picked up some RAM from Neutrino Mobile, and it arrived within a single day; based on the reviews I checked out, they seem pretty reliable. It’s also a nice perk that both Amazon.com and Neutrino Mobile offer free shipping on orders over $333
.

hm, could someone suggest a decent processor upgrade? I'm looking for an i5 or something similar that is actually compatible with this motherboard.

Your suggestions definitely fit within the budget. Honestly, if you were planning on spending more than what a Pentium G4560 - Newegg costs, I think it’s smarter to skip the 1151 socket entirely since it's basically end-of-life. The older i5 chips just aren't a great value anymore when you consider how much better Ryzen performs, or even the newer i3 and i5 generations that haven't really hit the shelves here in the States yet—and we won't see many budget boards like the B360 for another year. My advice? Just go with an R3 1200 and a B350M Pro4.

What’s your take on these processors?

I can shell out an extra hundred bucks or so if the upgrade is worth it. My main concerns are which motherboard I'll need to pair with them and whether my 600W power supply can handle the load.

Don't do it that way. Instead, try checking different retailers like this: click and click

The power supply isn't the issue here.

I think I'll just stick with Micro Center since they actually have everything in stock right now. I called a few local shops yesterday about a high-end build, and while they said they could do it, everything was backordered for a few days.
Now, let's get back to those motherboards. When I search by the part number, I get a dozen different results and can't tell which specific model you were referring to. https://www.microcenter.com/search?q=AB350M+PRO4

They might have it if you check their website. Personally, I get my orders from places like Amazon or Newegg shipped across the country the same day I order, and they show up at my door the next morning. I wouldn't bother paying Best Buy's prices.

You can grab this exact motherboard at Best Buy; the online price is pretty decent, and when you factor everything in, the CPU isn't much more expensive either.

So, I suppose a person can just remain fundamentally ungrateful indefinitely?
