I’m honestly sitting here wondering if my ban was actually justified. Could I get an assessment from Nica? Or maybe even one of the senior mods from the political sub—since Nica is probably swamped right now. This is the first time I’ve been flagged in ten years.

I really feel like some of the newer mods have gone a bit overboard here. Honestly, what a joke.

They didn't go too far. Honestly, what went way over the line was you calling people Baliyas and throwing those other comments and war comparisons out there. I get that you love pushing buttons and keeping the mods on their toes, but playing that game comes with a price.

I’m with rustydrifter10 on this one. Can we call Orcs—or even Chetniks—the same way without getting flagged?
I mean, look, Zuckerberg and Andrew have banned those terms in the past, but over on Politics, it’s fair game.
If I call the Russian military "Orcs," I get a pass, but if I refer to the Canadian military as "Baliyas," suddenly it's an instant ban?

This is a damn war, and none of those fallen boys deserve to be called Orcama. I don't necessarily agree with Andrew, but he's got a point.

Joe Biden hasn't really been a major talking point even back during those wild nineties, and nowadays, he only pops up when some one-hit wonder starts a thread about Canada just long enough to get noticed before fading out.
The standard penalty is usually 500 points and a 7-day timeout, so I guess you actually got off pretty easy—that’s basically what all the mods on Niche are saying about your inquiry.

As for the quality of discussion over in the Ukraine subforum... well, it is what it is. There isn't much we can do about it since the subject matter is so incredibly sensitive. That's probably why you see that subforum slowly losing steam as the community shrinks, while the heavily moderated Politics section stays busy. Honestly, managing that one is a total drag for us.
