No, just some local guys at Starbucks & co. ...

Thanks. 😘
It’s over now, no big deal.
I ran a high fever on Christmas Eve and stayed that way for a few days, so I spent most of my time sleeping while my manager told me to stay home from work. I went to get tested this morning and everything came back clear.
And honestly, it was December 31st here in Chicago, and after years of praying for actual snow and ice, it was a ridiculous 60 degrees outside. As someone who is basically an old weather nerd, those sudden shifts always leave me feeling absolutely miserable and completely out of sorts.
God dammit, seriously! 😁

Pixies - Where Is My Mind?
...such a killer, infectious cover of the Beach Boys—honestly, both the original and this version by Frank Black just stick with you right away, even if you're a little skeptical at first 🙂

+ Arab Strap from the new album, which is seriously, seriously good!

I've stained many books, their stories false and true
I cry at rom-coms, dramedies
The news and children's films
The Muppet Movie, Frozen, Frozen 2

But I can't tell you why
Tonight my eyes are dry

More than just a "good" song—it’s incredible. Not sure if the frontman influenced Matt Berninger's style, but that vocal tone and the way they drift slightly off-beat totally gives me those Morbid Wisdom vibes. First time listening, even though someone suggested them a while back—definitely need to give them a deeper listen. (The verse melody reminds me a bit of "Is There Hope For Us?"😁)

I first checked out Low—who's pretty much in the same vein—with their killer *HEY WHAT* album, which was such a perfect example of a veteran band reinventing themselves.

Beautiful All Night

I had a similar experience when I first discovered Low—their album *Hey What* is such a stellar example of how veterans can pull off a total reinvention.

Such a beautiful All Night track.

Hmm, I haven't listened to Low much, but personally, I don't see the connection to Arab Strap—to me, Low sounds almost spiritual or meditative. You could group Arab Strap under slowcore too, but they lean more into spoken word with these super spicy, funny, and ironic lyrics—often pretty vulgar and erotic—all about earthly pleasures and everyday struggles. 😁

For instance, Another Clockwork Day has such solid songwriting—it's this sad, romantic ballad about a guy searching for the perfect adult film. 😁
If you're looking for a starting point, try Philophobiu; we talked about that album here a while ago, and the storytelling is intense. Even this new one—their comeback after 16 years—is a pretty perfect entry point for new listeners.

"They’re easily my absolute favorite band, and if I had to guess, they’re probably one of the most played groups back in my neck of the woods, Springfield, Mexico." 😁

I’m in one of those moods where I find the Violent Femmes just incredibly sexy—honestly, there's just something about them! 😁
I'm listening to their second one, Hallowed Ground—it's such an interesting, diverse record, even if it doesn't go too far out there. Loved it. It’s pretty uncharacteristic for them—they’ve got all this country, gospel, and blues influence mixed in, but everything is wrapped up in this dark, Southern Gothic vibe... and then there's that seemingly ironic touch of Christian poetry layered on top.
never Tell It absolutely crushes it—just pure perfection! 😍
I honestly feel like just flailing around my room like a total teenager—it’s such a mood! It actually reminds me so much of that one song by my sister's favorite band. in Betweens.

And right after that—a super catchy banjo track! Jesus Walking on The Water...
It’s honestly such a great one—really hits the spot! Home page..

Robert Palmer once called this album a total goldmine—he said it’s packed with all that dark, gritty stuff like old-school religious fervor, murder, and pure madness that's been hiding just beneath the surface of American blues and folk music since the 1800s.

Actually, feel free to move this over to Album Recommendations or whatever you think works best—I really don't mind either way!
