uh, Steven Newman50, I dig this one.
plus, I remember who you are + god damn The Sun.

but honestly, I shamelessly love that entire album,
even though I know most people found it disappointing after CoG...

I honestly think this album is just gorgeous... there’s something so special about it, especially because of that one specific shift in sound they pulled off that they never really touched again. Even though Gira isn't exactly a fan of it, god damn The Sun apparently still loves playing those parts during solo sets.

And yeah, Jarboe sounds absolutely incredible on that track you linked! 🙂

He’s crazy about her, she’s easily one of his best...
(Honestly, I think solo looks way better).

Last year he played her at the club in Chicago—pretty intense, but good. Before that, though, I saw her live and she was just magical. There were maybe fifty people there and nobody recorded it, which sucks... I don't think I've ever felt that kind of energy again...
(Because of that show, I actually missed a Young Miko set in Chicago, if I remember right; I think it was around the same time. I flew all the way out to Belgium just for Gira, because back then I was going through exactly what you're dealing with now, except for me, it had been dragging on for months, or longer).

Yeah, there’s just something about those acoustic versions 🙂 They
never quite reached me before.
Man, if only I could just walk away like that... It felt like it's been a whole week since yesterday... But you gotta snap out of it. Sometimes a little getaway into the great outdoors does wonders 😉

Yeah, there’s something deeper there. Check this one out too: song for a warrior
And the whole 'i am not this' album if you can find it—if not, I guess I'll just send you a download code from the vinyl.
A week is way too little time...

Since you guys are clearly obsessed with Swans, it’s high time for another little micro-anecdote from back in the day...

Between '95 and '00, I went through a massive amount of CDs and vinyl—honestly, I doubt we'll ever see that kind of ratio of selection, affordability, and quality again. Back in early '98, a very serious listener lent me a whole stack: CoG, TWoS, WLftMoI, LoL, O, and TGA, all original CD pressings. I still remember what he muttered during a conversation later on: 'The Burning World? Garbage!'

Solid comment... honestly, I’d just 🙂
along with everyone else who won't shut up at (acoustic) shows.
but man, it’s pretty brave to show up to a gig with maybe 50 to 200 people and start acting a fool in the front row,
especially while someone right in front of you is basically ripping their guts out through the song...
well, Gira says it at the start, but even that feels too mild (if such a thing is possible).

Too lazy for the multi-quote. ☀️ the music is solid; embryo keeps moving.

Jules, stoked for that bike trip! 🙂

man, work's been hitting me just as hard—first day I didn't sit down once until late, next thing I know I'm already burning out, and yesterday I finally just said enough and bailed for the hills. 😬 okay, it's not like I wasted the whole day, but even a working woman needs a breather sometimes...

np the new weird ...

So, I finally made it back after fifteen days away, and honestly, it was fantastic.
How’s work treating you? Have you settled into the new routine yet? I’m starting my own new gig soon, and frankly, I haven't the slightest clue what I'm doing or where I'm even supposed to be. 😁

Richard Fox63 said:That image is too much, looks like a decent little pub, haha.
Such a lovely memory : )

Exactly. ))

As if we’ll get everything sorted by Christmas. 🤣

I'm really looking forward to it; I've fallen a bit behind and only recently started listening to Shepherd... He can't miss, even if he tried—it feels like it's just carved in stone.

Well, it's beautiful 🙂

Richard Fox63 said:Lately, I've been listening to this singer-songwriter I really admire; there's always something so soothing about his music : )

Damien Jurado - Metallic Cloud

This is actually quite lovely.

: rofl: Jamie Davis9 is great! And thanks! 🙂 I hope you're enjoying it too! : )

I can't be bothered to hunt down the specific post right now, but I have to brag that I visited Seagull's Wing a few times; we were working on something and ended up wandering around looking for the right spot and so on... I think the monument is cool. Though, honestly, I feel like a relic from a bygone era myself, considering a random trip to the cemetery about 10 years ago still sticks in my mind as a core memory. :mudri :

😛There was absolutely nothing happening over in the coal country.

I know this one is alright; I'll listen to the rest over the next few days. I promise. : D

Check out Billy Martin feat. Marc Ribot - Home Beat Home ...

Hey! 🙂 So glad you're liking it!
I truly enjoyed every single second of it, from start to finish. Seriously. : )

And Seagull's Wing is wonderful (we tend to call it by the singular name even though the official title is plural), and I personally find Podgora to be the absolute favorite little town on the coast.

By the way, the music everyone shared was fantastic; it made the drive so much better, even if I did freeze a bit because the AC was blasting and I was dressed way too lightly—at one point I genuinely considered wrapping myself in a plastic grocery bag just to stay warm. 😁

God damn him and his greasy hair, how does he manage to make the exact same song sound different every single time?

Signing on for The Burning World...

man, even what gira said at the start—that's still way too mild (considering how intense it can get).

Man, 🙏 I don't know if you follow Swanse or gira on Facebook—sounds silly, I know—but I really think he sometimes writes under his own account. He posts these funny little anecdotes or observations all the time; he actually commented on Billie Eilish recently because his daughter listens to her 🤣... he's fun and always hits on some seriously great music.

(I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record!
Oh, yeah?
Well, don't get so distressed
Did I happen to mention that I'm impressed?)

I take 1, 1, 1 'cause you left me
And 2, 2, 2 for my family
And 3, 3, 3 for my heartache
And 4, 4, 4 for my headaches
And 5, 5, 5 for my lonely
And 6, 6, 6 for my sorrow
And 7, 7 n-n-n-n-no tomorrow
And 8, 8, I forget what 8 was for
But 9, 9, 9 for a lost god
And 10, 10, 10, 10 for everything, everything, everything, everything!

Such gems 😍... listening to the whole album on repeat today

Ashley Grant66, uh, I used to play that album constantly back in high school (and actually broke a few of their CDs), they were so great, but I haven't listened in ages... anyway, here's something with a similar title:
les hommes sauvages:

blast of silence

It was actually pretty tough to find their first album 'Playtime'... I'm trying to track down where I put it right now, but man, it's just incredibly good. And, at the risk of sounding like a total Swans fanatic here on the forum, I follow both of their Facebook pages. On the gira one, he’s basically the one behind 90% of the content (head and shoulders above the rest).
But on the ig profile, it’s almost entirely his stuff (except for a few promo and tour posts where the caption says: posted by YGR staff).

His Instagram posts are top-tier quality; I’ve learned so much from them. That's actually how I first discovered Christoph Hahn's work (and his solo albums), The Necks, Charlemagne Palestine, and a whole bunch of other inspiring musicians, films, and books (plus there are some cool references to painting and contemporary art). You also see new personal texts and photos... and he actually replies to a good amount of messages and comments on his profile, which is a really nice level of direct communication. It leads to all sorts of mutual recommendations with followers, too. He really values his fans—I don't see that often with many artists, but Michael is just different. Plus, yeah, he's fun... and has a great, dry sense of humor.

Honestly, the best public social media post gira ever made is probably that one about nick Drako. I don't know if anyone else could have written it better (or more simply).

NP, Christoph Hahn's solo shows are something special...
Though, way back in the day, he seemed like the most intense member of Swans to me.

I love this one:

barracuda 😍😍
