NP Nubian Twist feat. Ego Ella May - 24-7 ...

Probably the most autumnal track on the most autumnal album by the most autumnal singer-songwriter ever.

I've been stuck on NP for a few days now,
thin white duke... 😍
When I first discovered this album, I listened to nothing else for maybe ten days straight. Then I went out and bought the vinyl—it was actually my very first Bowie record. It’s still my favorite, and honestly, maybe one of my all-time favorites (even better than his earlier stuff, the trilogy, or 'Scary Monsters,' which is great too). You could probably analyze the lyrics of this track forever; there was enough white powder involved to fuel a small city... it's just a shame we don't have any high-quality live recordings from that era.

When I first stumbled onto this album, I literally listened to nothing else for like ten days straight. Then I went out and bought the vinyl—my very first Bowie record. It’s still my absolute favorite of his, and honestly, maybe one of the best ever made (even beats his earlier stuff, the trilogy, or 'Scary Monsters', which is also killer). You could probably analyze these lyrics forever—there was enough white powder involved to fuel a small nation... it's just a shame we don't have any high-quality live recordings from that era.

Do you know about this?
Personally, I feel like he didn't play enough from his last two albums on that tour—maybe only 5 out of 15 songs from YA and STS—and I always got the vibe he pushed the Ziggy/Aladdin era way too hard during live sets.
Anyway...
This was my introduction to Bowie—early '92, I think. Just a random Saturday lunch at my uncle's place out in the suburbs—I can still smell that distinct scent of old pipes and my uncle, half a foot of snow outside, and a clear TDK cassette labeled "Various."
I'd give up a year of my life just to relive that afternoon for five minutes.

Nah, first time seeing this! Thanks... I wish there was live footage, but there isn't.
The Thin White Duke persona isn't captured well here. At least there's a film. 😍
'Young Americans' is its own thing entirely...

This is great. You should write more often using those Proustian descriptions of sights and smells. 😁

That tour is way too light on his recent stuff for my taste. He’s only playing about five out of fifteen tracks from YA and STS. It feels like he’s always overcompensating by pushing that Ziggy/Aladdin era way too hard live.
When pigs fly.
This is it. My first encounter with Bowie happened back in '92. I think it was during a Saturday lunch at my uncle's place out in the meadows. I can still recall that distinct smell—that unmistakable stench of sewage typical of the old neighborhood. My uncle, half a meter of snow on the ground, and a clear TDK cassette labeled "Various."
I would give up an entire year of my life just to relive those five minutes of that afternoon.
Everyone has that one specific moment—that first spark—that sets them on the path to discovering the hidden treasures out there. 😁
My first pick is, for some reason, this one:
David Bowie - Thursday'S Child
Why that specific one? No clue. It was floating around back in the early 2000s—it actually dropped right around then, maybe late '99. It was either buried in my MP3 collection or tucked away in some Bowie compilations.
It’s stuck in my head. It just won't let go. First it was the Bowie best-of, then one album, then another, then a second, a third, a fifth, a tenth... I can't stop. 😁 🙂
Opening the third eye on something like this. 😁
David Bowie - Warsaw
Constant listening. Falling back into that stylized abyss of Eastern Bloc mysticism and adolescence. 😁
