Holloway.

I have an issue.
My graphics card recently died on a PC that’s several years old. I can't tell if the card itself is dead or if there's a failure on the motherboard. This is what I'm seeing:

I know it's time for an upgrade... but is this one salvageable?

Try some different drivers, but there's a 99% chance it's already dead

You might be able to save it this way

Honestly, there's not much left to lose at this point anyway, so you might as well try

Maybe try doing a clean uninstall of your graphics drivers first—just wipe them out, reboot the PC, then head over to the NVIDIA GeForce site to grab the latest versions. Install those and see if anything actually changes. If that doesn't do the trick, well, you might just be looking at a hardware replacement at this point. One other thing you could try—if you have access to another rig—is popping that card into a different computer. It’ll tell you pretty quickly if the issue follows the card or if it’s just your specific setup acting up.

We tried the drivers. No luck.
Swapping cables and monitors didn't work either. I haven't tried pulling the card out to test it in another rig yet, but that’s the plan before I resort to the oven method...

Thanks. I'll report back once I know more.

Your GPU memory hit 100% capacity. I ran into the exact same issue back when I was running an old Radeon 4870. Honestly, it’s just what happens when you push the overclocking a bit too hard.

Maybe you can save her. That's how it goes.

Honestly, there isn't much to lose here anyway. You've got nothing to gain, but you certainly have nothing to lose.

That's all there is to it.👍 I can't speak for ATI's performance back then, but I do know that NVIDIA's 8-series cards from that era used to run incredibly hot.

This is just a secondary rig anyway. It barely functions as it is, so...

We might try reflowing it...
