No, nobody is actually running liquid cooling here, because anyone who truly wants water cooling would have already 👎

Is it even possible? I think the guys I bought this PC from might have locked down the BIOS or something to prevent any overclocking at all. I tried reinstalling the drivers from scratch, but it didn't change a thing—still totally stuck and unable to OC... 😕

Not essential yet, but give it time. It’s coming.

In my experience, anyway. When I grab an ASUS, I know exactly what I'm getting. No guesswork.
Daniel Nguyen3 said:Then explain this: why would anyone call a processor junk and then try to hammer it at 3.6GHz 24/7?
The chip is garbage because of those unlocked cores. You can overclock them way too easily without hitting any real walls.
Daniel Nguyen3 said:And while you're at it, how does the PC-8500 Ballistix run at 800MHz?
Typo in the copy. Should have said PC-8500 Ballistix at 1066MHz.

The Big Typ VX sits perfectly fine on the processor. I installed mine without any drama... maybe it just looks intimidating because of its footprint.🙂

If you take a moment to look at how the mounting setup differs between the VX and a standard 120mm cooler, you’ll see a massive difference in the thermal results when measuring the temperatures on a Q6600 b3... it really is night and day!

The CPU host is set to Enabled.... ☕
Is that something you adjust in the BIOS? I don't think I even see that option... though honestly, it might not matter much because I can't seem to change about 90% of the settings anyway. Everything just looks grayed out. I can't even figure out how to switch my boot priority between a disc or the hard drive...

If you head into your BIOS settings, look for the "BIOS Setting" section, find where it says "CPU Clock Ratio Unlock," and just switch that over to "Enabled"
I’m going off memory here, so if I’ve got the menu names slightly off, don't go throwing a fit at me😉

The guy's talking about how hard it is to get the cooler to actually "seat" properly on the chip, which explains the temps.🙂

Thomas Hill2 said:He mentioned having some trouble getting the cooler to seat properly against the CPU, which is affecting the temperatures.🙂
If the heatsink isn't making solid contact, you're definitely going to see higher temps.
The difference between VX and 120 is quite noticeable, at least regarding the SoC on the 775 socket.

The gap between the VX and the 120 is obvious, at least on the LGA 775 socket.
Hmm. Can't even verify that right now since I'm still waiting on that ASUS motherboard to arrive.🤷
But I did get a recommendation for the VX from a guy running it on a 775 socket; he hasn't had any major issues or complaints regarding temperatures.

However, I did get a recommendation for the VX from someone running it on a 775 socket, and they haven't run into any major issues or temperature concerns.
I am not suggesting the VX won't cool effectively, but a standard 120mm radiator actually offers better cooling performance at a much lower price point.

I had my rig running at 240x11 with the SPD set to 3.33, but after a few days, it just reverted to default settings out of nowhere following a reboot. Temperatures seemed fine... I only bumped the voltage up slightly from 1.325 to 1.350.
I guess I'm wondering why it would decide to change its own settings like that?
