I actually tried that about 11 months ago right when I bought it, not just now. Even when I attempted that, the "auto" setting forced the CL to 3.0, which is totally unacceptable—especially at a 215 FSB. So, to play it safe, I’m sticking with 200x11.😁 🙂

haha, it looks like you guys all have some pretty beefy rigs... I don't really have much to brag about, honestly. I was just wondering how many people out there are still rocking a Pentium 4 500MHz? My setup is running on 133 MHz PC RAM, about 128 MB, and I think it's a Gigabyte motherboard (though I'm not entirely sure which specific model, probably a Socket 1), paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 9250 with 32 MB of video memory.

What motherboard are you running?

It should hit 75 MHz without breaking a sweat.

I once overclocked a Pentium 4 and managed to squeeze out an FSB 83 MHz.

Yeah, but if the board doesn't let you set the PCI clock independently (asynchronously), you're going to have problems with everything else—hard drives, CD drives, sound cards, maybe even the GPU. If the PCI bus drops to 41.5 MHz, you're in trouble.
My hard drive died exactly like that.
At 75, or rather 37.5, it'll work just fine.

I'd imagine you should be able to hit 75 MHz without much trouble at all.

I remember once overclocking a Pentium 4 and managed to push it up to an 83 MHz FSB, I think.

Honestly, I can't quite recall right now. And man, how am I even supposed to bump up the clock speed? I checked the BIOS, but I guess there just isn't an option in there to do it.

Well, you've either got jumpers on the board or some DIP switches.

Check the motherboard manual to see how those jumpers and dip switches are supposed to be set.

If you don't have it handy, just find out the exact model of your board and hunt down the manual online.

Hey everyone, has anyone here actually spent some time messing around with the Glacialtech 2520 pro cooler?? I'm seriously wondering if it’s even worth a damn when it comes to keeping an Intel chip chilled out under pressure.

..wait, is that the one I have lying around? 🤔

Let me go take a look at it... then I'll maybe get back to you with more info.

Yeah, exactly..

I actually have a Glacialtech 2520 at my place..
It cools okay I guess, but man, it’s pretty loud since it runs at 4500rpm..

I suppose it's an $17 decent enough cooler, but you shouldn't expect any miracles..

Even when I overclock my rig, it holds up, which I guess means it kind of justifies its $17 price range 😉

But maybe you should think about whether you really want that one, or if you'd rather go with something running at 3000rpm 😉

So, I finally got it installed and honestly, it’s not half bad! My system is reporting speeds up to 3000. I've actually overclocked my Intel AMD Barton 2500 to hit 2200Ghz at 1.650 volts, and the temps are looking pretty sweet—when I'm just sitting there with the case closed, the CPU core stays between 39c and 42c, and even when I'm hammering it by decoding a movie with the CPU pegged at 100%, it only climbs to about 61c, nothing higher than that.

I'd say that's a solid result. I'm actually expecting a shipment of 2x512 DDR 400 Kingston memory to arrive later today, so we'll see how much of a difference that makes compared to this random no-name 2x 256 333 kit I'm running right now. Currently, the FSB is just sitting at 170.

I don't really get it? How did you hit 3000???

It seems pretty decent overall, I guess... it's probably hard to expect anything better when you're looking at this price range 😉

Maybe you can expect the temps to drop by another degree or so after things settle down a bit and the dust settles... but that's about it, I suppose...

Plus, it is technically summer right now, so you might want to keep an eye on that too..

I personally hate seeing temperatures hit 60° or higher, especially with these newer CPU packaging designs

🤔 🤔 Hold on a second—it's running at 2200 with a 170 FSB? Did you set the multiplier to 13?

So, I managed to get the multiplier up to 13. Once I hit 13.5, the whole thing just refuses to boot into Windows. Fingers crossed that when my new RAM finally shows up, I can push it way further to 11x200!

That sounds like a solid plan, right??

Oh, and I had one more quick question if anyone feels like helping me out.

I'm currently rocking a Soltek SL-75FRN2 / NV400-64 / NV400-L64 motherboard

running a BIOS REV D1.5L Phoenix

I noticed there's a newer BIOS version floating around online, but honestly, does it actually make sense to go through the hassle of flashing it? I'd hate to take the risk and end up bricking the damn thing.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a good program to overclock an ATI Radeon 9600pro??

goldenowl73 said:I think the multiplier is stuck at 13. I don't think it'll hit 13.5 once you get into Windows. Hopefully, when those new memory sticks arrive, we can push it to 11x200

That seems like a better way to go, right??

Oh, and I had one more thing I was wondering if anyone could help me out with.

I'm running a Soltek SL-75FRN2 / NV400-64 / NV400-L64 board

It's got the BIOS REV D1.5L Phoenix version

I saw there's a newer BIOS version online, but I guess I'm wondering if it's even worth the hassle of flashing it, or if I should just skip it to avoid potentially bricking something??

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a good program to overclock an ATI Radeon 9600pro??

Well, it sounds like your BIOS is working just fine, so if you're asking me... I probably wouldn't mess with it if I were you..

And regarding the Radeon... honestly, maybe just grab some OMEGA drivers.. they should let you do it without much trouble.. I know a ton of people recommend using those drivers instead.🙂

goldenowl73.............

Good advice is worth its weight in gold... even when it comes from HANS

Don't go flashing other BIOS versions... I'm sticking with the latest 1.7L just because of one specific feature I actually need—that one particular Stand by version...

Only 1.4L and 1.5L actually worked well for overclocking... all these newer versions are a total disaster because the PC won't even boot if you mess with half the multiplier settings!!!
If you've got decent memory, you can push it up to 230 FSB—even hit 242, which is my personal max! On the FRN2-RL... but only if the processor is unlocked.
By the way, how did you manage to get the multiplier above 12.5x!? Which Barton are we talking about here!?

Alright, help a brother out here...😉

Epox EP-8RDA3 + 2400 + AMD + titan cool 512 DDR 400 Hz
2400+ AMD + titan cool
512 DDR 400 Hz (I can't for the life of me remember the brand name...)
NVIDIA GeForce 9250

What the hell can I actually pull off here?
And how do I go about it?
Am I gonna end up calling the fire department after this?!

🙏 🙏 😎

Almost forgot—last time I tried just bumping the FSB to 166, the motherboard started squealing like crazy for about an hour. I couldn't do a damn thing and it barely managed to reset itself. Give me the real deal!👋

which basically means... forget about OC
come on, drop some actual CPU specs here...

If you've got decent memory, you can actually push it up to a 230 FSB, maybe even hit 242 which is my absolute ceiling! That's on the FRN2-RL... but obviously, you've gotta have an unlocked processor for that to work
By the way, how on earth did you manage to crank that multiplier past 12.5x!? What kind of Barton are you running!?

Barton 2500+ from November 2003

It can actually go up to a 14 multiplier, but Windows just refuses to run if you go over 2.3ghz

So, I’ve got Bart running at 200 x 12 with 1GB of 3200 memory under the hood. Temps are sitting pretty at 41°C while idling, and even after letting it rip all night burning DVDs with the case completely closed up, the CPU only climbed to 61°C. I'm pushing the voltage to 1.725, and honestly, everything is rock solid. Once I get a chance to run some actual benchmarks, I might try to squeeze out a little more speed, though I'm not entirely sure if there's much point in chasing those extra numbers right now.
