The movie is based on the epic poem by John Milton, published back in 1667. Fun fact: Milton was actually blind when he wrote it. His poem is split into two parts—one covers the fall of Archangel Lucifer, and the other deals with Adam and Eve being kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

The plot follows Archangel Lucifer and his rebellion against God. It’s basically a war between God's angels led by Michael and Satan's forces led by Lucifer. After a three-day battle, the Son of God descends and crushes them all, sending Lucifer and a third of the angels screaming down from heaven into the abyss.

Production has been stuck in limbo for over five years, but the project finally got the green light earlier this year. Shortly after that, Bradley Cooper was tapped for the role of Lucifer. Here is the first Official shot of Lucifer:

I’m not exactly sold on the whole concept for Lucifer—but hey, we’ll see. I just hope they stick to the source material instead of turning it into some typical Hollywood garbage.

And looks like we’re about to get hit with a massive wave of biblical themes soon. They already announced Noah's Ark—supposedly being pitched as a dark thriller.

This movie takes a massive, sweeping approach to its narrative, much like how I handled my take on Da Vinci's Code. 🤮

You can't even compare The Da Vinci Code to this movie; this is going to be more like 300 meets Lord of the Rings. I bet half the Christian population in America is going to lose their minds when this drops—all those holy relics and spikes 😁
. I grew up in a Christian household, but all that religious symbolism stuff just isn't my thing. The only part of the Bible I actually found interesting was Revelation, mostly because it reads like sci-fi. 😁

Personally, I’m cool with Lucifer, even if we only see his eyes for now. I think Bradley Cooper is a killer choice for the role since he can play the hero one second and then pivot to pure evil the next.

As a Catholic, this kind of movie really rubs me the wrong way, so I’m definitely sitting this one out. To me, it feels like straight-up anti-Christian propaganda, much like Milton's epic.

But hey, if you want to watch it, be my guest. I won't stand in your way. 😉

I just hope they don't screw it up like they always do when they adapt a masterpiece

I grew up Christian, but all those religious schemes don't really do anything for me. The only thing I ever actually read from the Bible was Revelation—that stuff was actually interesting because it's basically sci-fi. 😁

Maybe... we haven't seen the whole thing yet. Who's directing? They seriously need to pick a top-tier director who can actually do justice to this theme, rather than just making some generic blockbuster like 300.

The director is Alex Proyas, best known for The Crow and the City of Darkness. Personally, I thought I, Robot was just okay. I’d definitely recommend checking out his first two films instead.

Now, listen... this could actually turn out to be a stellar film. Truly. If they can manage to pull it off properly, that is. But let’s be honest—that rarely ever happens, does it? It's a constant struggle in this industry. 😁
It’s a refreshing change of pace, really. We’ve been drowning in that endless cycle of superheroes, Greek gods, and vampires lately, haven't we? It feels like every single release follows that exact same blueprint. So, seeing a concept that actually tries something different? That’s a massive win in my book. It's a huge plus.

Proyas is definitely on a downward spiral when it comes to quality. This is only going to be "good" if it turns out to be something like 300 or Immortals..

Well, let's just pray they shoot it in that style, because personally, I thought 300 was absolutely fantastic.

Meh. I guess Proyas is kind of a has-been at this point, and honestly, I’m not about to waste a single dime on Bradley Cooper. Plus, I'm really not seeing how they’re going to pull off the action side of things. I mean, what’s even the point of these epic battles led by angels if they aren't even capable of dying?
That said, the story itself is actually pretty interesting. Having Lucifer as an anti-hero is a cool concept because you can actually relate to him—he’s essentially rebelling against authority (and in this case, the ultimate dictator, God). I just wonder if the studio will actually have the guts to interpret the story that way.
We can always hope it turns out well. There aren't exactly a ton of movies out there centered on Christian mythology.

Paradise Lost is easily one of the most significant and monumental pieces of English literature ever written. Comparing it to Da Vinci's code just seems totally nonsensical to me. Besides, Milton's work actually had such a massive impact on Christianity that a lot of people today—without even realizing it stems from this epic—believe in this specific version of events regarding the fall of Lucifer (even though, obviously, there’s nothing about that in the Bible).

I guess I just have one question? You claim it feels like "pure anti-Christian propaganda," but have you actually even read the epic?

I’m crossing my fingers that we don't end up with something totally shallow or just visually flashy without any actual substance, like *300* was. I am seriously counting down the days until that first trailer drops... I just can't wait!

Bradley gives a quick update on "Paradise Lost" in his latest interview with Bleeding Cool:

"WE ’ ve been doing motion capture tests All of this Week. It’s intense, but the deals are finally set. We’re currently messing around with different rigs. WE did this One scena where Lucifer lands and talks to The minions. Alex Proyas is amazing… it’s a rush. We kick off filming in January. I’m stoked. It’s been forever… I remember back when we were touring for The A-Team and ran into Ralph Fiennes. We were chatting and he goes, “So, what’s next for you?” and I told him, “There’s this project, Paradise Lost, and my absolute dream is to play the devil.” He just looked at me and said, “You’re gonna do it.”"

I’m seriously dying to see who they cast as Michael and Rafael. 😁
