PCI wireless driver issues

I just installed a wp81r1 wireless PCI card, but Windows 7 isn't recognizing it at all. I even tried using a universal driver for wireless PCI cards, but no luck—Windows 7 still won't see the hardware. Any idea what I should do?

Double-check that you actually seated it right in the socket. Or just try a different PCI slot entirely. Honestly—if Windows isn't even seeing the hardware, then no amount of hunting for drivers is going to fix your problem.

Device Manager

So, here’s the deal with Windows: when I popped that card into the PCI slot, the system started hunting for a driver but couldn't find one. Now, if you look in Device Manager, it just shows up under "Other devices" as a 'Network Controller' with a little yellow exclamation mark next to it. To make things a bit more complicated, I'm running entirely on wireless at home right now, so I can't even jump online to update Windows.

Look, just find somewhere with a decent Wi-Fi connection, head over to the manufacturer's actual website, and grab the driver from there.

I’ve got a laptop here that picks up Wi-Fi just fine, so I know the hardware works, but I’m having a bit of a headache finding the right drivers for Windows 7. I tried downloading some meant for Vista, but they won't install at all. Does anyone happen to know where I can track down the correct ones? Thanks in advance!

Maybe give Windows Update a shot first; if that doesn't do the trick, just send over the chipset ID from the card and we can go from there.

I picked up a Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1JT laptop and went ahead with a clean install of Windows Ultimate. Everything seemed to go smoothly, and I managed to get the USB support working without any issues after downloading the driver myself, but I've hit a wall with the wireless and LAN support. I can't seem to track down a wireless driver that actually works when I try to install it. Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me out? If anyone has dealt with a similar situation or knows exactly where to find drivers that are 100% guaranteed to work, I'd really appreciate the help.

Start by checking the official website. You didn't mention which OS you're running, so here are the links for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

I'm working with Windows 7 here, and unfortunately, I already tried using the official site—that link you sent me didn't work either. I haven't quite figured out a workaround yet, but I did try searching for the most recent version of Windows 7 and started the download, so hopefully everything will be up and running once I finish reinstalling the system.
