Pele vs. Maradona

In your honest opinion, who takes the crown: Pele or Maradona?
I happened to hear about these two separate polls floating around. One was an online vote where Maradona came out on top, but then there was this one in FIFA magazine where Pele actually snatched the win.
Anyway, I’m really curious to hear what you all think. If you're asking me, I've gotta go with Pele.

I haven't actually sat through a single match where Pele was on the pitch. I’ve just seen some highlights and heard other people's stories—but let's be real, that’s not the same thing. It’s probably the same deal with most people voting online, so it makes total sense that Maradona ended up pulling more votes. Maradona is a bit of a loose cannon, whereas Pele occasionally gets involved in those FIFA-led PR moves, so it’s pretty predictable (if you want to call it "politically correct") that Pele would take the lead in their poll.
And honestly, subjectivity runs wild in all these types of elections anyway. I mean, if I think Cupan is better than Cafu, you can say whatever you want, but for me, Cupan rules.

For me, there was never even a debate, and I’ve felt this way since I was ten years old. Maradona was always a selfish player who only cared about his own name and elevating his own ego. He always put himself first and the rest of the team second. He lied, cheated, stole, used drugs, took liberties, covered things up, played dirty... you name it. All of that just because he managed a few solo runs and scored a goal. And regarding that "Hand of God" incident? Nobody even knew about it until he came along, and even then, he admitted it was a hand, despite swearing on his mother, his entire family, and God that he had headed the ball—even though a blind man could have felt how much of a setup that was.
On the other hand, Pele was a true master who played for the team, which is exactly what makes football beautiful. Every ball he touched seemed to have eyes; many of the greatest moves in history started with him, and scoring wasn't his only priority.
All things considered, on a scale of 1 to 10, Pele is a solid 9, while Maradona is maybe a 3... and even that is being generous.🙂

Maradona was more of a playmaker, whereas Pele was a pure striker. In my book, Maradona was the greatest playmaker to ever play the game, but I don't think Pele was the best striker ever. That title goes to Gerd Muller. Everyone else is just a cheap imitation. 😁

P.S.: On that FIFA poll, I voted for Baggio, who ended up landing somewhere around 5th or 6th. Serves them right. 👍

To me, Pele is basically a legend from a different era, someone I never actually caught playing live, but man, if you're talking about pure magic on the pitch, Maradona was the real deal, and honestly, once he stepped onto the field, nothing else felt quite the same again.

In my estimation, there hasn't been a single player in history who could truly match Maradona. No one else has ever carried a team to such a massive advantage. I mean, basically winning the Italian league on his own shoulders... that's unheard of. If I had to pick anyone else for an all-time list, though, I’d have to include Stanley Matthews. His style of play would still be relevant today, even though he played back in the first half of the century. He was right up there with Zidane—not just in terms of raw stats, but in every other way too. Whether you're talking about pure skill, creativity, or leadership, he doesn't fall behind those names at all.

Nobody wins a championship alone. For every superstar, there are ten blue-collar workers holding things together. Soccer is the ultimate team sport. If it weren't, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Chelsea would win every single year.
The question itself is silly. I never watched Pele, and while I did watch Maradona, I hated him from the bottom of my soul because he was a total piece of work.
But man, could he play. 🙏 .
P.S. Superman is stronger than Batman, but there's only one Zagor. He'll dive through five pages of action and kill two crocodiles before breakfast.

Zagor is a legend, but he's way too weighed down by all that moralizing (kind of like Jean-Luc Picard)... that's why Tex Riley and Benjamin Sisko get so much more done.

Batman vs Superman because he actually knows how to engage in some serious thinking. And this other guy? He just leaps up, grabs a falling plane, and breaks a massive sweat doing it. A real Batman would never let himself get stuck in a situation where a plane is crashing right in the MIDDLE OF NEW YORK CITY.

It’s pretty simple: Batman spends all his time fighting brainless villains who aren't even a challenge for him. And honestly, what's a pathetic bat supposed to do if a plane starts falling out of the sky? Try catching it with a piece of string or one of those little boomerangs? Superman would just wipe the floor with him without even getting up from his armchair, thanks to those heat vision beams. I don't know what you guys are even talking about. 😁

P.S.: Batman is such a pushover they actually have to call him whenever they need help. Superman sees everything and keeps watch over it all himself. 😎
