Pre-op Transplant Checklist

A close friend of mine is currently waiting on a heart transplant.
I don't know much about the specifics of his condition, but he asked if I could look online to see if he’s already been added to any transplant registries or national waitlists here in the States...
I'm honestly not sure where to start looking, so if anyone knows how these systems work or where to find this information, I'd appreciate the help...

Look, if a doctor tells him he’s officially on the transplant waiting list, then yeah, he really is just sitting there waiting for the call. You won't find some public database online where you can just type in a name to see someone's specific rank, but honestly, even if you could, being number one on the list doesn't actually guarantee you'll be the next person to get an organ.

I know I should probably sit down and write out a massive, detailed essay explaining how all this works, but I'm honestly just feeling a bit too lazy tonight to go into full lecture mode—you can actually find a deep dive on this in that old thread about organ donation over on the forums.
Basically, the whole thing comes down to biological compatibility; an organ has to match the recipient across a whole bunch of different medical markers. In the real world, that means a donor organ might pop up and be a perfect match for someone way down at the 10th or 15th spot on the list rather than the person at the very top.
