Up until now, I’ve been rocking an HP DeskJet, and honestly, it’s been a total workhorse for me. But lately, it’s been throwing error messages left and right saying the print heads are clogged...

I think it might be time to move on. I’m looking for something where finding compatible third-party ink cartridges isn't a complete nightmare—if those are even still a thing these days...

Also, I was curious about your thoughts on those laser printers in the $500-$233
range. Are they actually worth the jump?

I can't really make sense of that. What are we talking about? rustysurfer79 says:

I need to find a printer that actually has decent third-party ink options available... if people even bother making those anymore.

So, I'm curious—what's the deal with these laser printers sitting around the $500 mark? Anyone actually using one of those?$233

🙂

You got an iPhone 1500 on Hot Spot? It's definitely working perfectly.

Has anyone here actually used the Canon pixma MP280? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also, does it play nice with third-party ink cartridges?

There aren't really any generic cartridges out there

you've basically got

1. just using a refill kit to top them off
2. taking it to a repair shop to get filled
3. installing a CISS system

Hey everyone! I'm looking to pick up a printer for my place—mostly just for printing out some docs here and there, the occasional photo, and maybe some light copying if I really need to. My budget is roughly $500-$333 🤷

What's the verdict on this one:
The Epson Stylus Office BX305F, A4, 1200x2400 dpi/5760x1440 dpi, 15 ppm black and white, all-in-one device

What do you guys think of this one:
Epson Stylus Office BX305F, A4, 1200x2400 dpi/5760x1440 dpi, 15 ppm black & white, all-in-one

could work

Thanks for getting back to me!

Oh, and does it take third-party ink?
Is there anything else out there that’s actually worth the money, maybe something you guys would swear by?👋

Is there anything better out there for this kind of money? Any recommendations?👋

You can get those refillable cartridges that don't use standard ink. The quality is actually pretty great.

For that budget, you might want to check out a Brother instead.

IKEA is running a 10% discount on printers this weekend, so I’m thinking about grabbing one while the price is right. My sister and I are both college students, and we’re really leaning toward a laser printer since our printing volume is pretty heavy. Does anyone have any recommendations? Please!

We’re based out of Phoenix, so if the deal at IKEA isn't actually worth it even with the 10% off, feel free to suggest a better model from a different retailer nearby.
Budget: $333, but honestly, long-term cost-effectiveness is what matters most to me!

Check out where you usually grab your supplies and just ask if they carry generic toner. Honestly, once you figure out which cartridges are the cheapest, that’s how you pick your printer.

If all you really need is a basic printer, a budget Xerox is totally fine. Don't waste money on anything fancy; just get one that hits 18ppm with a USB port and you're good to go. 😁

And if you need an all-in-one, stick with Xerox again—the model over at $333. But seriously, check those toner prices first like I said...

Buying a printer is basically like getting a pet. You get it for $33 plus a bag of Pedigree or Whiskas. Pretty soon you realize the little guy won't eat anything except those specific kibbles. Once you crunch the numbers on what that costs, that puppy or kitten ends up in the trash. Or by a dumpster.

And you see, sometimes a stray ends up in a shelter for spoiled pets, where they teach him to wag his tail at something that's way cheaper than Pedigree or Whiskas.

So the real question is: do you want to adopt the pet that only eats Pedigree, or the one that'll be happy with anything?

In other words, the upfront price is the same. But with the Pedigree stuff, you're feeding him for maybe 45 days, whereas with a cheaper brand, you can stretch that out for 8 months longer.

Obviously, I'm exaggerating here, but it's a pretty accurate look at how things work in the real world these days.

rustysurfer79 said:It’s essentially the same math as buying a pet. You get them for $33 plus 5kg of Pedigree or Whiskas. Then, almost immediately, you realize the pup won't touch anything except those specific kibbles. Once you actually run the numbers on the cost, that puppy or kitten ends up in a trash can. Or next to one.

And you see how a kitten like that ends up in some shelter for pampered little divas, where they teach it to wag its tail at something that costs three or four times less than Pedigree or Whiskas.

So the question is: would you rather adopt one of those types, or the one that demands nothing but Pedigree?

In other words, the upfront price is the same. But with Pedigree, you’ve got maybe 15 plus 30 days of food, whereas with a decent alternative, you’re looking at at least 8 months longer.

Sure, the comparison is hyperbolic, but it reflects the grim reality of the situation today.

What an insulting and completely inappropriate comparison! 😳 Dog equals printer 😠.
I don't have any issue spending as much on yearly toner as the printer itself cost; if it actually prints around 3,000 pages, it'll last me way longer. So there is absolutely no need to try and sell me on this, especially not by playing the "poor abandoned dog" card—unlike stupid printers, dogs actually have feelings.

Besides, any responsible owner, before they even think about getting a dog, calculates the monthly cost of food for that breed. And of course, they’re calculating based on something slightly higher quality, like Royal Canin or Eukanuba, not Pedigree or heaven forbid, scraps from the table.🙂

Kate Morales76 said:That is such a rude and totally out-of-line comparison! 😳 I messed up my printer. Honestly, I’m such an idiot sometimes. It just stopped working out of nowhere, and now I’m staring at it like it's some alien technology. Anyone have any tips before I toss it out the window? 😠
I honestly don't mind shelling out the cash for toner once a year if that's what it takes to keep my printer running. If I'm actually hitting that 3,000-page mark, then it'll probably end up lasting me way longer than that anyway. So, you don't need to try and sell me on it.And seriously, don't go playing the sympathy card with those poor abandoned dogs. Unlike some stupid printers, they actually have feelings.

Look, any responsible dog owner is going to do the math before they bring a pup home. You’ve gotta figure out what that monthly food bill is actually going to look like for that specific breed. And obviously, you're budgeting for the good stuff—like Royal Canin or Eukanuba Hairball-Indoor—not some cheap Pedigree or, heaven forbid, some mystery brand from the grocery store bargain bin.🙂

God help us from this mindset. At this rate, we’ll have automated kitten feeders coming out any day now. You just shove ten cans of food into the machine, and all the kitten has to do is tap a button to get a fresh serving of Royal Canin dumped onto their plate. Meanwhile, the owner sits there scrolling through some fancy new widget app on their phone, watching the whole thing live like it's the greatest thing ever. It’s a endless cycle of nonsense. The kitten gets lazy hitting buttons, and the owner is just living in pure bliss.

With that kind of attitude, a poor cat might as well just go join the Becky Boy choir instead of hanging around an automatic feeder.

How?

Nice.
>>>>

Royal Canin actually makes this specific formula for neutered males and spayed females. It’s designed to help them stay at a healthy weight and keeps their urinary tract in good shape so you don't have to deal with bladder stones later on. If you're looking at other options, Hill's has their Indoor Cat Adult, and Eukanuba has the Hairball-Indoor Adult. Honestly, though, when you're picking up food at places like Walmart, you should definitely chat with the vets on staff. They can give you the full rundown to make sure your cat stays happy, healthy, and chill.

Out of the options at Walmart, I’d probably go with the Brother HL-2240, but you might want to take a look at this instead: http://www.trustedreviews.com/Samsun...Printer_review

Over at Best Buy, there's the $197, where a 1,500-page toner cartridge will run you about $150. It has built-in wireless—so you just pair it with your router and tuck it wherever you want—plus it doesn't take up much space.

Also, how much is "a lot" of printing here? Are we talking a thousand pages a month? Two? Five?

And seriously, find another forum for pet stuff. 🙂

It’s definitely not going to be a thousand bucks a month :O I just need a decent home printer, but I’m dead set on getting a laser one. I am so over the constant hassle of swapping out ink cartridges; I’d much rather just pay upfront, get it over with, and have some peace of mind. Honestly, I feel better spending more on a legitimate laser printer than wasting money on an inkjet. 😁, I’m currently stuck using an Epson 4450 dx and it has started making this horrendous noise, the print quality is garbage, and everything comes out smeared—cleaning it hasn't done a damn thing. I’ll probably only print maybe 100 or 150 pages a month, sometimes even less, but I’ve realized it’s way more cost-effective to go with laser in the long run. If I had a laser printer, I’d probably end up printing even more; I've been too stingy with this current setup.

Honestly, it feels easier to shell out for a legit laser printer than an inkjet. 😁, I've currently got an Epson HP LaserJet Pro and now it’s making this huge racket, printing poorly, and smudging everything—even cleaning cycles don't help. I probably print maybe 100 to 150 pages a month, sometimes even less, but I figured a laser would be way more cost-effective than inkjet anyway. I'd probably end up printing more if I had a laser; I've been being too stingy with my current one.

For Epson, you have the option of "Faulty for Working + Surcharge"

Basically, you turn in a broken Epson and get back a working HP LaserJet + 4,000 + 4,000 page yields from replacement toners + a warranty for those 8,000 pages.

Just for comparison: if you buy any other laser and hit 8,000 pages over 12 months, it ends up costing you the same: 800 + 3* $150. It's basically just a standard tax on people who think they're being clever. After 12 months, the warranty is gone and your wallet is twice as thin.

So, taking in abandoned "strays" seems to work for you guys and is totally worth it. Though that HP LaserJet Pro will definitely find a new home with someone else who gets this whole "rescue" philosophy + saving money + getting what they need.

Can you actually pull off a size 5 or 6 font on that Samsung? LOL. Look, I’m no expert when it comes to their DPI specs, but my gut tells me those laser printers can't touch the sharpness of an inkjet. Also, how much toner are we actually talking about getting out of that thing at the start? I can't find any decent info anywhere.

rustysurfer79 said:With Epson, you’ve got the option of trading in a broken unit for a working one plus an extra fee.

What that actually means is you hand over a busted Epson and walk away with a functional HP LaserJet 1300, plus $40, plus 4,000 pages of replacement toner, plus a warranty covering those 8,000 total pages.

Do the math: if you pick any other laser printer and run 8,000 pages over 12 months, you’re looking at $800 plus whatever else you throw at $150. It’s nothing more than a standard tax on people who think they're being smart. Once those 12 months are up, the warranty vanishes and your wallet is twice as light.

So, I guess taking in these abandoned "lost causes" is a profitable little racket for you people. Just know that someone else is going to end up adopting that DX 4450—someone who actually understands this philosophy of recycling, saving money, and getting what they need.

I'm keeping my Epson because of the scanner. Period.
