So, I picked up an Epson SX 130. stylus printer yesterday for $100—got everything set up today, but I've hit a bit of a snag. It’s refusing to recognize the black ink, even though it sees all four of the individual colors just fine. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know! Otherwise, I might just swap it out for a different model. Thanks in advance!

Just return it. Or, grab a fresh set of genuine inks and give it another shot. You could also swing by a local print shop and ask if they'll let you run a test with their supplies in your machine.

If that doesn't work, you're out of luck. But hey, you know where to find us if you want to try a free test using Colibri refillable inks for the SX 130.

I think I'll just take it back to Best Buy where I picked it up and file a formal complaint.

Let me know how it goes. I'm sure there's a good story in there, and it'll definitely help out anyone else dealing with this.

So, I ended up taking it back in—the ink had basically baked onto everything—and they actually gave me a different printer to test out right there on the spot.

An Epson where the ink just... dried up?!

I’m starting to think that "expert" at the service center was just winging it.

I find myself facing a predicament with my HP printer, and quite frankly, I am the architect of my own misfortune here. I was attempting to print a four-page document from Word when I realized, far too late, that I had only two sheets left in the tray. Naturally, the machine stopped mid-job. I hurriedly replenished the paper, but the printer refuses to cooperate. Now, every time I attempt to print any file, I see that persistent icon in the bottom right corner of my taskbar: "1 document pending." When I click on it to restart the job, absolutely nothing happens. Every single file I send is simply pushed into the queue, sitting there idle while the printer remains completely unresponsive. Does anyone happen to know what might be causing this? If there is a way for me to resolve this matter independently, I would be immensely grateful...

To be more specific, the device is an HP DeskJet D2400.

The thing is, your print job is still just sitting there on pending status.
So, yeah, none of the other stuff you want to print is actually gonna happen until that first job finally clears out.
You'll probably just need to jump into your settings and cancel that first one to get things moving again.

I just finished setting up a printer that’s been sitting idle for quite some time... and now, whenever I try to swap out the ink, I get hit with http://tinypic.com/r/2en92dk/5. Any advice on how to handle this? 🙂🙂

Looks like something might have snapped inside.
Just as a quick test, grab a ballpoint pen and wedge a tiny little shim on both sides of the Carriage. Then try moving the Carriage manually. Honestly though, if something actually broke, doing that probably won't fix much.

Look, I find this whole situation rather strange... because when you first power on the printer, the cartridge moves through its cycle—it completes one full rotation and returns to its starting position. However, the moment I attempt to swap out a color, it simply refuses to move at all.

I actually attempted to intercept the mechanism halfway through its movement to install the ink, but now the printer won't even recognize the cartridges I've put in.🤦

Elizabeth Gomez3 said:Look, I don't know... the whole thing feels weird to me. When I first power on the printer, the cartridge moves like it should—it does one little loop and heads right back to where it started. But the second I actually try to swap out a color? It just won't budge. Nothing.

I tried to "catch" it halfway through... I went ahead and swapped out the ink, but now the printer won't even recognize the cartridges. 🤦

Here’s how you usually handle it:

Just pull the cartridges out.
Try turning the printer back on.
The printer’s gonna throw a red light.
The Carriage is going to move right over to the position where the indicator says a part is missing.
Hit the button right under the Power ON, and the carriage will start moving, cycling through the cartridges one by one.
Finally, you just slide it right into the tray slot.
Just grab some Colibri refillable cartridges. They're great because you don't have to toss them out, and they actually work.
8. Just hit the resume button.
9. Give it a little bit of wandering around and that RED light will finally shut off.
And that's that.
Got it. I'm ready to go. Just send over the posts and I'll get to work rewriting them with that specific US-centric, casual vibe you're looking for.

I don't see any reason to go out and buy a fresh set of inks, especially since my original ones were working just fine... As for the procedure itself, I followed it to the letter, except for one thing: the printer simply refuses to respond to the button I'm supposed to press to initiate the movement. 🙂

Elizabeth Gomez3 said:I don't see why I should bother buying brand new ink when my refillable ones were working just fine... and regarding the reset process... that's exactly what I tried to do, except the printer won't even respond to the button you're supposed to press to move things along. 🙂

Look, at this point, you might as well just hang onto those useless cartridges and toss the printer in the trash.

Quick question: I haven't used this printer in a while. Had ink sitting in there for a few months, maybe even half a year... wondering what the odds are that the ink dried up and killed the print head? It's an Epson sx 100.

I have a quick question—should I go with the original ink or just pick up some third-party refills? I don't actually print that much, so I'm wondering which way to go.

It really comes down to the ink formula. Not every cartridge uses the exact same mix or volume.

To be specific, we have a huge stock of Epson printers here, and they're all running Colibri cartridges filled with Colibri ink. We haven't run into any issues with them sitting idle. Sometimes you might get a leak if a cartridge is faulty, but as far as dried-up ink, we haven't had any trouble yet. Still, you never truly know what you're gonna get with a new shipment.

I really need some help here.
I have an Epson Stylus SX125 that I bought about six months ago. I've been using third-party ink cartridges, and everything was working perfectly fine. A few days ago, I ran out of black, so I picked up a new compatible cartridge. As soon as I put it in, the printer started acting up—it says the blue ink isn't recognized, even though my computer shows the black is full and looks totally fine. I went ahead and bought a brand-new blue cartridge, but I'm getting the exact same error. It won't recognize the blue, and when I try to run the cartridge cleaning cycle, it just gets stuck on the blue one and never moves on to the other colors. What should I do?? http://i40.tinypic.com/55ier.jpg
