So, I'm dealing with a Canon PIXMA that my computer just won't recognize, and it's running on an old setup with Windows XP.
I tried plugging it into another PC thinking maybe the printer was the issue, but nope—it works perfectly fine there.
I've lost count of what I've attempted: drivers from the original disc, downloads from the web, letting the system auto-install, even trying to force it manually.
The weird part? The computer actually detects it, but then throws this error saying "an error occurred during installation and your device may not work properly."

I honestly can't wrap my head around this. Is there any way to fix it? Is the hardware just too outdated for the printer? Or is it because of the OS, since it hasn't seen an update in years?

Please, help!

Have you tried doing a completely clean uninstall and then reinstalling it from scratch?

BTW, what are your system specs (you can pull all that info using Speccy)? If you're running at least a dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM, it might actually be worth just installing Windows 10.

Maybe you should give the manual a quick read... it usually clarifies whether you need to plug the printer into the USB port before, during, or after the driver installation process.
