Hello there,
I’d like to lay out my situation before I head back to the dentist, so I would appreciate any insights you all might have.
About five months ago, I had a lateral incisor repaired. My dentist drilled it, placed a filling, and sealed it up—everything seemed perfectly fine at the time. However, five months later, the tooth started acting up. I went back to her, and we did an X-ray.
When the pain first kicked in, I held out hope that it was just a temporary thing, but after three days of nothing changing, I went back in. The dentist removed the filling, applied a medicated dressing, and opened the tooth to relieve the pressure. Even then, the pain lingered—intermittent, sharp, and particularly brutal late at night or while I was trying to sleep. We took another X-ray; she didn't see any granulomas or anything major, but based on the symptoms, I suspect it's pulpitis (inflammation of the nerve). Honestly, those ten days were some of the most painful of my life. Things have stabilized somewhat since then—there's still a bit of discomfort, but nothing extreme. The weird part is that now that the tooth pain has subsided, I’ve developed a localized ache right above that tooth, near my nose, whenever it's touched. Looking at the X-ray, the dentist simply noted that "some process" is occurring in the area above the tooth (potentially a minor 😁), and told me to come back in two weeks just to have the medication reapplied.
So, I’m looking for your take: what could be happening here, and should I go back sooner because of this new sensation, or just wait for my scheduled appointment in ten days? Is this something worth worrying about? =/
...As an aside, the pain isn't unbearable; I can manage without painkillers.
Thanks in advance for the help.
