RealPlayer alternatives?

I tossed RealPlayer in the trash ages ago—pretty sure I uninstalled it entirely—but I’m still dealing with this one annoying glitch. It keeps popping up as an option when I try to open files, and even worse, every single video file on my drive is still flagged as a RealPlayer file. It’s driving me insane.

Does anyone know how I can scrub every last trace of this thing from my system? I want it completely gone.

Well, here is the fix! Just find a video file that's showing that pesky RealPlayer icon and right-click it—then look for the "Open with" option. Click that, and from the drop-down menu, select "Choose another app." A window will pop up where you can pick which player you actually want to use for your videos. Once you find your preferred player, make sure—and I mean *make sure*—that you check the little box that says "Always use this app to open files" before you hit "OK." After you give your computer a quick restart, all those files (like your AVI files, for instance) should switch over to the correct icon and open in your chosen player with just a double-click.

You'll need to repeat this exact same process for all the other video extensions too—you know, MPEG, MPEG, FLV... and so on.
And hey, you don't have to restart after every single video; you can go through and select a different file one by one first, then just reboot at the very end!

Thanks for the tip. I followed the steps, and now everything finally looks like it belongs to VLC Media Player (which is basically the gold standard for movies in my book). 🙂

RealPlayer is seriously light years ahead of that MPC guy, and honestly, it puts all those other players to shame too. But hey, whatever, people are gonna have their opinions, right? To each their own! 🙂 🙂

I can't tell if you're joking or being dead serious with those compliments for RealPlayer, because honestly, it's a stretch.😁 Just try getting DirectX Video Acceleration to work in that thing and let me know if you actually succeed, or if you really need to trim a video, just grab Windows Media Player from the link below and give it a shot; it’ll work fine.🍿🙂

Nope, I am totally not joking! Not one single other player I’ve messed around with has all the bells and whistles that RealPlayer does.

Oh, and that DirectX Video Acceleration thing... I gotta admit, I don't even know what that is or what it's supposed to do. 🤷But hey, it’s never really come up for me before!

As for Windows Media Player, you mentioned it's basically an upgraded version of QuickTime? Well, okay, that sounds worth a shot, I'll check it out. Here is what I had to say about QuickTime about a year ago:

I stick with BSPlayer mostly because it handles subtitles instantly. Without that feature, I wouldn't bother with it at all.

As for the topic itself, I'm not really sure. 😁. I initially thought about what was mentioned in the second post, but it looks like you don't use it.
