Rejected threads in the US

Without any prior warnings, three of our most active and heavily visited threads were just nuked from the off-topic section—it’s unfortunate, but that’s how it went.

Look, this isn't my personal vendetta or anything... it's just that the "post-breakup feelings" thread really pulled people out of a dark place, without all the usual melodrama or overacting...
It would have been the decent thing to do if someone had just said, "Hey guys, we're on thin ice here, this is how things are going to be..." Though, I suspect there wasn't even any "thin ice" to begin with.

Just to reiterate... this subforum is "LONELY HEARTS"

and I'll quote "mivucina":

From where I’m sitting, the threads aren't actually gone—they’ve just been moved. I get why you’d be annoyed if your favorite discussions suddenly hit a dead end, but honestly, looking at it this way, I don't see what the big deal is.🤷

The most useful threads get dumped into the miscellaneous section—so apparently, being off topic isn't an issue anymore???

Meanwhile, you've got a thread that was nothing but spam, trolling, and whatever else from day one, and it’s still active... Like that thread about helping "lonely hearts"... If nobody sees a problem there, then maybe I should suggest moving the entire "lonely hearts" subforum over to "politics"... —And I mean bad politics at that... 👎

Well, it's likely all three of those threads have devolved into mere chat rooms at this point. One is definitely just mindless chatter—I've seen enough to be sure of that 😉—as for the other two, I can't say for certain, but I suspect they suffer from the same rot because instead of shutting them down, they just moved them to the off-topic section. 🤷

It feels like the only actual problem here is that some people think it's acceptable to post under the bottom sections in the off-topic area. 😁

Props to the crew running things, but man, when it's just one thread or one subforum where everyone is posting these incredibly depressing—yet totally real—stories, it just forces you into this loop of constant whining and self-pity. And honestly? That is the absolute last thing you need when you're already going through it.🙂

As for the USA forum specifically, I shouldn't really be weighing in. I've got a few posts over there, but I’m hardly an expert. Still, IMO, back when I was active and that thing was hitting double-digit pages, it basically devolved into a giant chat room. Then again, it's hard to tell where off-topic ends and a chat starts on forums like the USA. On my own niche boards or elsewhere on the web, it’s way easier to spot the fluff because everything stays focused on technical stuff. But on the USA, it’s all feelings, emotions, and venting about life, which just turns the whole thing into a mess of spam and endless chatter.

So, I'm not trying to play judge and jury on whether what they did was right or wrong, I'm just throwing my two cents in since I stumbled across the thread...

If I hadn't felt the need to explain, I wouldn't have said anything at all. 😁

But I've put together an action plan; we just need to wait until the admin wakes up tomorrow morning. 😁
If they listen to me, those threads will be restored... 🙂
I apologize for any inconvenience caused (and believe me, I've dealt with plenty myself 😁) and I hope there won't be any further issues moving forward.

Mike, I totally get where you're coming from......

The whole thing is that people over in the States who are feeling a bit lonely stumble upon a chat room that was officially approved by a moderator. Instead of being isolated, they found people to talk to and formed this tight-knit little community, especially since every new person was welcomed with open arms. The issue is that these folks are looking for connection, and anyone truly feeling lonely would head straight to "Lonely Hearts" rather than hanging out here.

Then, out of nowhere, one totally unprofessional moderator had a meltdown and kicked out a massive group of people just because she felt like it. There was no reason, no logic, and no justification—she did it simply because she couldn't stand the fact that this specific chat had become one of the most positive spots on the entire site.

To make matters worse, she actually started attacking people who dared to criticize the moderation team, which just showed how incredibly petty and unrefined she really is.👎

What kind of actual authority do these moderators even have here?
Are they seriously allowed to just bully and drive away entire groups of people just because they don't like them?
Who is responsible for holding these rude, arrogant, and completely classless moderators accountable?

I've got quite the history on this board... and I believe you when you say you've had a rough time, though I can see why you weren't surprised—you probably saw this coming... Honestly, the apologies aren't really necessary... Let's just hope everything gets sorted out...
Either way, I don't think Jane should have reacted like that—well, she had the right to, I guess, but maybe she shouldn't have gone that route... Especially toward a user in the States who didn't offer a single decent or constructive piece of advice, but instead just turned every single post into a joke or something stupid... Is that really the standard we're using?

I hear you. My group on the forums has been acting just as crazy. This isn't even the first time, either. 🤷
I can't say for certain what went down, but I can take a pretty good guess at how it played out.
If the management had just checked in with me, we could have avoided all this by talking through a solution... but they didn't realize I was a moderator now, so that chance passed us by. It should be obvious that having four separate chat threads in one subforum is overkill. Still, given the nature of these boards, I could live with it, which is why I pushed to revert everything back to the way it was.

It’s honestly not that bad. The only real issue is that post counts aren't being tracked—not that you guys even care since you're part of the 😁 crew—but you'll meet tons of cool, interesting people. It won't just be the same five people spamming the thread to boost their numbers. Plus, maybe the mod will sort things out for you. I mean, give the guy some credit; he’s the one who started the thread in the first place, so... 🤷. 😁

It's a shock at first, sure, but you'll adjust and start jumping around the forum more.
