Daniel Barnes53 said:The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that German Energy Minister Robert Habeck Has activated The " early warning phase " of Germany's gas emergency law. This whole thing was set up to help manage rationing if things get really bad with supply shortages. Basically, the decision will alert German consumers and businesses to do what they can to conserve energy.

I think this is going to be pretty interesting to watch. At this point, I guess neither side can afford to blink, especially since everyone is so dependent on whatever the other side is willing to provide.
☕

I don't know how much you've been following this, but one side just blinked. They finally folded.
Go ahead, take a guess which one.

Best,

Are you serious? I must have missed it, but I bet Russia will cave the second you give them an answer. 😁
I wonder how much they were pulling in daily from those gas deals. Honestly, I almost feel a little bad that they backed out.
Edit:
Back in 2021, energy was pretty much the biggest thing the European Union was pulling in from Russia. It actually made up about 62% of the entire region's imports, which I guess works out to roughly 99 billion euros—or about $107.87 billion if you're looking at the conversion. That's a massive chunk of change, just for context.

If my math is right, they're turning down about $1 billion a day—and $200 million of that alone comes just from Germany.
I feel the same way; for the first time, I found myself siding with the Tsar, and what a massive disappointment it turned out to be.
Best regards,

In a coordinated move yesterday, four European Union nations announced they are kicking out Russian diplomats:

Belgium: 21
The Netherlands: 17
Ireland: 4
The Czech Republic: 1

European Union countries Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland and the Czech Republic on Tuesday announced the expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats

Slaps are flying from every direction... 🙏

slyfox43 said:Mexico could simply nationalize the portion of the company held by Chevron and call it a day. (Or, if I'm being precise—and please correct me if my math is off—it would likely be enough for Chevron to just divest 2% of their stake so they aren't holding majority control.)

Sure, and Europe can just pay for their gas in rubles while they're at it.

That’s all well and good,😁 but once gas shortages hit and factories start shutting down their production lines, the mood is going to shift pretty quickly.

The Germans are acting incredibly reckless here, though honestly, anyone would be if their entire manufacturing sector was tethered to Russian gas.☕

They could... but they won't...😁

But honestly, this guy is just tucking his tail between his legs again... typical behavior for a little bully the second someone actually stands up to him. 😁

Keep dreaming, kid... they say hope dies last... but in your case, I think it's more like "hope is a liar."😁 .

Germany will pull through this one... I mean, they could probably buy all of Russia five times over if they really wanted to... so they'll find a way to manage without the gas if they have to. But what happens to Putin and his regime? Well, now *that* is a whole different story altogether..😒

Best,

Russia blinked first. But even with that little bluff, they managed to hike up gas prices over the last week—just another way to pad their pockets.
The threat hasn't gone away, either; they’re just moving the goalposts 😁

It probably scared off those sanction supporters who were pushing for escrow accounts to handle gas payments. If that doesn't work, then the whole thing about paying in rubles will likely actually happen.

So basically—even when Russia loses, they somehow end up winning...😁😁

God, honestly... if it weren't for you Putin-obsessed types, we probably wouldn't even have to deal with this nonsense...😁

Except Russia isn't actually selling gas at those rates. They're trying to move oil below market value, for instance. Someone else is the one profiting here, not Russia...

Walmart is also packing up its bags.
On one hand, keeping their stores stocked is becoming a total nightmare, and on the other, they're feeling the heat from the public back home.

How much of that actually hits you? 😁

Right now, sugar is the biggest headache for Russians: prices are soaring and shelves are empty. 😬

The FTC is actually stepping in to investigate whether the five major distributors are price-fixing and causing these shortages in stores.

Man, they'd rather fight a war than fix this...

There's no winning or losing here. It's just a face-saving victory for Europe because they aren't forced to pay in rubles yet.

A gallon of bourbon and some Coke.

Probably a good chance for Kubanac to make a move.
