Tell him to set his thermostat to 65 degrees and call it a day. 🙂

Dmitri Peskov’s wife is out in Greece living her best life—smashing plates and having a blast
Total class act.

According to the Los Angeles Times, her little getaway in one of the EU nations has sparked a massive backlash online. People are rightfully asking how she even managed to get into Greece when both she and her husband are under sanctions.

The thing is, plenty of people don't even have a programmable thermostat, so they can't just "set it to 65" if they wanted to...

It’s honestly quite strange how nobody seemed to account for them during all those previous winters.

At the end of the day, they'll likely be shivering through this winter just like they have in the past, regardless of what happens to natural gas prices.

In many ways, those folks with adjustable thermostats have become a sort of privileged class here in America; now, they'll either have to tighten their belts a little, or perhaps they won't if they decide to dip into their savings...

What can you expect from a Russian peasant?

She could have just danced like a typical lady and then gone to get tested for drugs.
Who cares about the alcohol levels? As long as it isn't drugs, it's fine.

Look, don't act like this is the end of civilization.

My family was dealing with terrible heating oil over a decade ago, and then suddenly prices spiked, so we were basically rationing it drop by drop just to keep the tank from hitting empty. Eventually, we bought a wood stove, and now we save a ton on heating.
I'll admit, our current chimney isn't really built for wood because it's too narrow—it would be nice to install a wider one that's easier to clean—but the bottom line is
wood is cheap energy.
If you don't feel like stacking the logs yourself, just pay someone, I don't know, maybe a local high school kid looking to make some extra cash.
Buy your wood from a local lumberjack who delivers by the cord, pay for the sawing service, and at the end of the day, it still works out cheaper than natural gas.

I read somewhere that people in Germany are starting to switch back to wood. Not everyone, but there's a shift happening. The smart ones already planned ahead, while the ones who didn't... well, they're just turning their thermostats down a few degrees.

Thanks a ton, MBS,

Oil is creeping dangerously close to that $100 mark. 🤦

So, gas and oil prices have spiked—which basically means even though Russia is selling their stuff at a discount, they’re still pulling in just as much cash as they used to. The only ones actually feeling the squeeze are regular folks in the EU and the USA...
Honestly, if you ask me, this whole thing feels orchestrated just to screw over the working class. I couldn't care less about these wars, really.
And then you've got this massive wave of millions of "refugees" being funneled into the EU and the USA—someone has to foot that bill, and guess who it’s going to be? The locals.
It’s all rigged from the jump...
It’s the same old story where those who actually have money end up paying for those who don't. It reminds me of how things worked back in the old days in America—they’d just nationalize any extra housing and hand it out to some poor soul living in the middle of nowhere.

What’s going on—anyone have any intel?
Our local politicians are suddenly acting hyperactive—it's suspicious—so I figure something must be brewing, since these things usually happen in intervals, yet lately, everyone seems to be losing it all at once.

Someone actually has to stoke the wood stove, but if we’re all stuck at work from 7 to 6, there’s nobody around to get things burning by 6 PM just so the house is warm by 10.
That’s easy for families where Grandma is always home to handle it.

And?
Where exactly does your logic lead you when you compare getting high on chaos by breaking things versus just having a good time dancing?

The assumption here is that in both scenarios, people are partying while under the influence.

People say assumptions are the root of all problems, and they aren't wrong. I guess it's obvious you haven't actually heated a home with wood—but you might have a point.
It would be more accurate to say this applies to anyone who wants the option but can't afford the luxury of natural gas—ask a former wood burner like me. It has its flaws, sure; it's messy work and gets your hands dirty, but your argument about timing doesn't really hold up. Anyone who has ever done it knows that between active burns, you basically choke the air intake and toss in a couple of logs—so when you walk in from work, there’s always enough ember left to catch. You just add fuel and open the vent. Surprisingly, it doesn't take four hours to heat a room—it's more like fifteen minutes, similar to gas.

That’s beside the point,
but my own way of looking at things allows for plenty of diversity, and I certainly don't believe that everyone needs to share my specific customs, habits, or methods of having a good time.

At this point, the only thing that isn't entirely "clear" to me is whether these sanctions apply to spouses as well, or if they strictly target the individuals on the list—and honestly, I wonder if they might even extend to the type of music someone listens to while they're out celebrating.

Let's get back to the actual issue of the sanctions, because that is the real subject at hand, rather than debating how every individual chooses to spend their leisure time.

Too much copium here.
It’s not just some isolated case involving the Russian market—Chinese companies are expanding everywhere, like in the Gulf Cooperation Council, where they're actually beating out legacy brands by offering better quality at way lower prices.

Same story, different part of the world, and it isn't Russian PR. If they can export to the Gulf, what's stopping them from pushing the exact same models into Russia?

It doesn't matter what kind of stove you're using, from an old cookstove to a full central heating system. Even if the fire dies down, the heat lingers. In our 3,000-square-foot house, we only had to light the central furnace about three times a day.

Besides, with central heating, it’s standard practice to install a thermal storage tank. You'll have hot water running through the system for hours after the flame is completely out.

Even Ivanka Trump has come up with a few "helpful" suggestions for when sanctions hit.😁

It isn't necessary, though I’d certainly expect that same level of effort from Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and the rest of that crowd...

Short sleeves and windows wide open. That's the move.

When the Russia-apologists start talking about Russians surviving oppression and poverty—comparing them to spoiled Americans who act like delicate snowflakes because they can't handle a tiny dip in their comfort levels—I think I know exactly who they're actually talking about.

Pure projection. God forbid we have to pay a few extra cents for our sushi and craft beer!
