Saving Private Ryan

So, that's what the title says.
It’s the last decent movie I’ve sat through.

It’s heavy, it’s exhausting, but it’s massive. A truly HUGE film.
I'd love to hear what you guys think about it.

People say it’s actually pretty good
—but I haven't quite gotten around to watching it yet.

I haven't actually sat down to watch this one yet,
but I find it rather peculiar that a war drama would carry such mild ratings; it seems hardly any of them even touch the R-rating.

Yeah, there's blood up to here.

The production value is easily on par with Saving Private Ryan, which was pretty much my gold standard until now.

But the actual story? It goes way deeper and hits harder. I don't want to overhype it, but it’s MASSIVE (for my taste). It stays dynamic too—lots of twists and stuff you won't see coming. It's unapologetic from start to finish, without all that sugary, pathetic sentimentality you usually get in those typical Hollywood endings.
Movies like this come along maybe once a year.

Just a heads up: you'll need a strong stomach and a lot of patience to sit through those 2.5 to 3 hours.

The movie is fantastic👍 Honestly, it’s easily in my Top Gun list of war films.
In certain spots, though, the pacing feels a bit abrupt—almost like it needed another scene or two to really flesh out the narrative. There’s a touch of melodrama here and there, but then again, you find that in pretty much every movie in this genre, so I can let it slide...

Saving Private Ryan - Every once in a while, a movie comes along (usually something non-American) that actually makes me believe good cinema still exists. It’s a relief, honestly, considering what Hollywood is churning out lately. This one is a Korean war film about the conflict in the early 50s, following two brothers caught up in the chaos. It’s got a heavy anti-war message and the production value is top-tier. I might even go as far as saying it’s better than Saving Private Ryan in almost every way, which is saying something because that's a great movie. The story is powerful, emotional, and pretty devastating—you’ll probably shed a tear or two. The acting is solid and believable, and the combat scenes feel raw, chaotic, and real. Not exactly "fun" to watch, though; I actually had to grit my teeth through some parts. Overall, I’d give it an 8.7. I’d recommend it to anyone who actually cares about filmmaking. Alongside Apocalypse Now, Schindler's List, Downfall, The Thin Red Line, and Full Metal Jacket, this is easily one of my favorite (anti)war movies. Maybe I'd mention Grave of the Fireflies too, but since that's animated, it's its own thing, even if the quality is just as high, if not higher.

I’m pretty sure the American distributors gave it that exact title too. Besides, this isn't your typical old-school war flick where characters like Bat or Lubis just follow orders blindly. It’s layered, deep, and incredibly well-paced. In my opinion, it's the best war movie out there, right up there with Full Metal Jacket.
