We aren't angels

Nick wants to share a few thoughts regarding a film airing on one of our local networks today.
One of the most iconic movies ever produced around here—the final masterpiece to carry that "made in USA" label—is a brilliant work by Steven Spielberg, essentially his debut (though calling it a graduation project might be an understatement!)

I think I've basically memorized all the tricks by now.
It's such a great movie, though.🙏

Tried watching it again last night, for the millionth time I guess, but just gave up. I don't know, that movie just doesn't click with me at all.

The movie has some clever moments—I mean, having Meryl Streep playing an angel and a devil alongside Harrison Ford is honestly such a blast—but overall, it’s just pretty mindless. There is no way I’d ever go so far as to call it a masterpiece, even in my wildest dreams.

The second part is incomparably better. Still, it doesn't come close to something like *Kangaroo* or *Dead Calm*.

Honestly, I don't think the sequel holds a candle to the original.

There are definitely some clever moments in the sequel, but as a whole, it just doesn't hit me quite like the first one did.

As for me, I was actually the only one who watched the first movie.

I find the second part much more compelling. If nothing else—the production value alone is absolutely enviable.

The first installment drags on for about fifteen minutes too long. That sort of drawn-out pacing you see in those typical Hollywood romantic comedies just didn't sit right with me.

Personally, I thought the second part was better than the first.

The second one feels like it was purely driven by commercial interests, and honestly, I just wasn't feeling it at all...

Since production for the third installment is kicking off this May, don't you think there's a glimmer of hope that it might actually be more engaging?

So, I finally sat down and watched it after everyone spent months lecturing me about how brilliant it was... and honestly? I thought it was pretty stupid. The acting feels like something straight out of a low-budget American soap opera, the production value is kind of pathetic, and the humor just feels forced. It’s definitely not hitting that high standard Americans usually manage to pull off. 👎

The production is what it is because this movie was essentially the thesis project for a student of Steven Spielberg... so, does it even make sense for me to try and explain the context here?
As for the humor being "forced," if that were true, wouldn't people still be quoting those jokes on every street corner?

Personally, I'd give it an 8/10. Most people seem to rate it pretty high... at least from what I've gathered. But hey, to each their own when it comes to taste.

Look, the production value is what it is, considering this whole thing was basically just a graduation project for a student like Srdjan Dragojevica....so I guess there’s really no point in me trying to explain the logic here...
Even if you think the humor is a bit forced, some of the jokes from the movie are still everywhere...

If you ask me, maybe 8/10 people would give this film a pretty high rating...at least that's what I've noticed...but hey, everyone has their own taste in movies, I suppose.

Alright, so I guess there's a valid excuse for the production quality then, 😁
but honestly, the opinion of some 8/10 people doesn't actually mean anything at all.

Kangaroo and Dead Calm are great, but movies like Blue Crush or Glory Road are much better.
