SMS notification from admin@reddit.com???

So, I just got this weird SMS notification from admin@reddit.com on my phone today and honestly? It feels totally sketchy and impossible.
I use mobile data sometimes when I'm away from my computer, but as far as I know, I haven't even entered my phone number into my account settings or anything like that...

The number starts with some random string of digits—not even a standard US number format, it’s way too long for a normal cell number.

Can anyone actually explain what the hell is going on here?😕

Someone might be messing with you through some sketchy web-based texting service.
That would explain why the number looks so weird (if it’s got more than three digits) and why there’s a random sender name attached.

The message just cuts off mid-sentence and that’s it. Great. Seriously? My inbox was actually full, too.🤷

Maybe you have some setting enabled with your carrier that lets you send emails via SMS? I noticed you registered using a Verizon email address. I used to have that feature turned on back when I was with Verizon.

Reddit doesn't have anyone's phone number on file, nor do they run any kind of SMS service

...you probably have that SMS-to-email forwarding active...

...maybe you should take a quick look at which specific mobile services you're currently signed up for through Verizon...

I didn't even think to check there. I'm heading over to my old Verizon inbox right now—honestly haven't logged into that account in months, let alone since the original thread was posted on the forum... But since I never use that email, I never got any SMS alerts or anything. So yeah, problem solved.
