Hi everyone, I'm new here! And honestly, I've run into a bit of a dilemma—I’m coming to you all for some genuine advice and perspective. Here is my question:
Should I go surfing or just head outdoors? Should I look for a "surf soul" vibe or maybe spend an evening at the library instead of hitting the club? Also, regarding flowers—should I pick up a bouquet from a discount shop like Trader Joe's and wrap it in fancy, expensive paper, or just stick to simple clear cellophane?
How are you all navigating this current economic crunch, and what's your strategy for keeping gift-giving affordable when it comes to someone special?
I recently lost my job, which actually prompted me to start browsing professional networking sites like LinkedIn—partly because I'm hoping to find a partner who is currently employed, since I'm between roles right now.
It feels like a crisis is much easier to weather as a duo rather than going it alone. How are you guys managing?
The whole situation is pretty complex and honestly a little overwhelming—I'm feeling a bit lost, so I would truly appreciate any guidance you can offer.
Thanks so much!

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right sub for this kind of thing, so if I've posted in the wrong spot, I'll happily ask the moderators to move it...

It’s never really been about what you buy—it’s about how you actually execute the idea. It is way easier to just swipe a credit card than it is to actually be creative. For instance, if you were looking for something to spice things up for the two of you, it would be much more effective to just grab some high-quality massage oil and get inventive with it, rather than buying a massive, overpriced dessert that's just going to sit in the fridge until it goes bad.

you're basically looking for a sugar daddy just to survive this recession😕

Honestly, in times as messed up as these, that's probably the smartest move you could make... 😁

awesome ! I see everyone is checking in!

Exactly! There are plenty of people out of work right now who have nothing but time to spend surfing. Why not take advantage of that downtime and find someone to share the load with?

I don't think you quite get it! That isn't the point at all. This is about maintaining your quality of life during a crisis.
The real issue here is mindless spending. How do you adapt when an unpredictable situation hits?
How does someone who's used to living in a massive suburban mansion manage to adjust to a tiny studio apartment in the middle of NYC?🤷

Facts. There are plenty of people out of work right now with nothing but time to spend on dating apps. Might as well use that downtime to find someone to split the stress with, right?

Usually I’m just scrolling through LinkedIn when I'm bored, but honestly, she could just post an ad: "Looking for a partner to split two car payments, gas, and dinner dates. I can handle my own groceries."🤣

Right? It’s simple and practical! Personally, I think facing life's hurdles is much easier when you have someone by your side.
The real question here is: can you actually find a true soulmate just by scrolling through apps?

You save money on going out, you hang out at home, and you share the load with someone else.

So, yes or no? Do you think that's actually doable, or am I just being overly optimistic? Is digital dating even a viable way to find a soulmate in today's world?

And what exactly would your fraudulent soulmate get in return?

She’d probably sell off all his old trader gear on eBay—that way they could afford to rent another pathetic 1,000-square-foot loft.

They’d just grab some beers online! It’s definitely cheaper than hitting up a local pub.🤣

She’d listen to him whine about everything and try to comfort him through his total downfall.

She’d even pop some popcorn in the microwave for him every single hour.😛

Honestly, she’d do pretty much anything for him.😂

Epilogue: you guys can close this thread now.

This discussion was meant for the Nut Subforum. The whole premise explores this harsh reality where young people find themselves stuck—having lost everything, including their social standing, due to the economic downturn.

It’s about highly capable individuals forced into such uncomfortable circumstances that they have no choice left but to seek out someone to share their burdens with—even if that means finding connection online.

We're looking at a situation where there's no room for going out or any extra spending—since their finances have been stripped down to just the bare essentials—but they suddenly have plenty of free time on their hands.

In conditions like these, is it actually possible to find a soulmate online and truly kill the loneliness?

Can the internet ever really serve as a substitute for real life?

Why don't you just get up, take initiative, and actually fix things instead of wallowing in self-pity and hunting for some kind of hollow satisfaction in a utopian virtual world?

😁 I’m really trying ! I’ve applied everywhere on all the major job boards and now I’m just waiting for a response—hoping that in the meantime, I might run into someone else who is navigating these same tough times. 😢

Based on your reply, I’m guessing that isn't you. 😛 Any chance you could share some advice instead?

Or are you just a local critic? 🙄

Fortunately, I haven't been there myself, though I have been before. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't see much point in venting about it on a forum like this.

No, I am not acting as the resident critic here. 🙄

And happy Easter if you're celebrating.

No, I'm not some designated critic 🙄

Thanks, I did celebrate—sort of—with my online family. 😍 And I'm not complaining! I'm just looking for an online friend who’s actually in the same boat as me.

I've signed up for every single platform out there meant for people facing similar struggles.
I think I might be on the wrong site, though. I doubt I'll find a kindred spirit on this particular forum. 🤷
