SSD recommendations?

Right now, I'm running a 120 GB Kingston SSD. It’s actually a solid little drive, but it’s proving to be way too small for my needs. Once I load up Battlefield 4 along with a few other programs, I'm basically redlining my storage capacity. I think it's definitely time to upgrade to something with at least 240 GB of space.

I realize that moving up in capacity usually means paying a premium, but does anyone happen to know where I might find a decent deal for under $333?

For instance, would this be a smart move? I'll admit, I've never even heard of this particular brand before, and I'm certainly no hardware expert. Surely there are some tech enthusiasts here who can weigh in on their reputation?

I really appreciate any advice or help you all can give me.

My advice? Just grab it from a retailer that offers a 5-year warranty. It’s worth paying an extra few bucks to have that peace of mind elsewhere.

I don't want to clutter things up with a whole new thread, so I'll keep this quick. I'm looking at picking up a used SSD Intel 520 Series 120 which is priced at $133. Is it actually worth the cash considering the model is technically discontinued? This specific one is pretty recent though—it was bought less than six months ago, so it still has over 4 years of warranty left. I'm wondering how much better the newer models really are compared to this one, if there's a massive performance gap, and if you think it'll still hold up fine for the next few years.

It was around 460$167 a few months back, so maybe that’s a bit steep, though I guess there isn't a massive difference between that model and the newer ones. Maybe try to nudge the price down a little... otherwise, it's probably fine to grab.

Look, honestly—the speed difference during everyday tasks is pretty much unnoticeable.

If you were stuck choosing between these two options—same capacity, different brands, and one comes with a higher price tag:

It’s the same manufacturer. The V300 is an older drive, and because they switched the NAND to async, it's relatively slow. The HyperX is newer and faster, sitting somewhere in the average range for budget drives. You won't exactly feel the difference in daily use, but it's worth noting.

If you ask me, go with the OCZ ARC 100. It outperforms the HyperX and it's significantly cheaper.

Honestly, neither—the V300’s performance totally tanked after I messed with the NAND and updated the FW, and while HyperX is decent, there's just no point getting it when you can snag a better ARC 100 for basically the same price depending on where you shop.

Bottom line? You should probably look at the ARC 100 (here's my quick take). If you're hunting for a 240GB SSD, there isn't a better or cheaper option out there right now—though the patriot Blaze might be a similar contender if you find a good deal.

They’re rated for 22TB, but the first one died after just 300+ TB of writes... and if I remember correctly, the last one bit the dust after more than 500.

Total nightmare. Gear arrives dead on arrival, and getting a refund takes forever. Pretty sure they don't even have an American storefront anymore.

At the end of the day, they're just another international retailer. I don't see how they hold any real advantage over a major German outlet or even a massive US site like Newegg. Besides, the big guys are way faster with shipping, and customers rarely have issues with returns or claims here.
