Tindersticks

My absolute favorite melancholic, soul-crushing band is finally "back" with their new album, "Waiting for the Moon." It hits shelves on June 9th... and I've already sat through... *ahem*... nearly the entire record 😉, and honestly? I’m thrilled. After those little "experiments" they were playing around with regarding song structure and overall sound on "Simple Pleasure," "Can Our Love," and that "Trouble Every Day" soundtrack, this feels like a true return to form—it captures that raw essence of their first two albums better than anything else lately. Even the lyrics have shifted; take this line, for instance: :"My hands around your throat, if I kill you now they will never know." Plus, they’ve included this exotic duet with a singer named Lhasa de Sal (who is a total stranger to me), which seems to be becoming a bit of a tradition following their previous collaborations with: Ann Magnuson, Carla Torgerson from Walkabouts, and even Isabella Rossellini.
Does anyone know if their next tour might wander our way? To my utter surprise, given how moody their music is, they've become incredibly popular in Mediterranean spots like Portugal, Spain, and Greece.

Sounds pretty solid to me; I guess the weekend is perfect for downloading. As usual, the tour is hitting Munich next.

Has anyone actually listened to this yet? And more importantly, is anyone even spinning their tracks here on the Forum? Personally, I am absolutely loving the new album... it feels like a massive step up from the last two releases. Of course, it’s probably an impossible task to ever truly recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of those first three albums, but man, what a ride...

Those opening lines are legendary... delivered with that signature, velvet-smooth melancholy in his voice:

"My hands around your throat...
If I kill you now they will never know...."

I totally lost interest after those first two albums—they were killer, honestly—but everything after that just felt stale.
I don't really feel like checking out anything new because I’ve got this nagging gut feeling they aren't actually bringing anything fresh to the table anymore. Maybe I'm wrong, though?

Are you really saying you aren't feeling their third album? To my mind, it feels like their most cohesive work yet... sure, there isn't anything groundbreakingly "new" about the sound, but I assume you weren't expecting them to suddenly pivot into some sort of reggae-ska-punk fusion, right?😁

Oops... I suppose when only a handful of people are actually listening to Tindersticks, the threads tend to wither away... I'm thinking about heading out to Munich for their concert this Saturday. Honestly, I've had my heart set on Munich ever since I missed out on seeing the Sisters because work got in the way... I still have those tickets tucked away in my desk drawer, just staring at me... how frustrating.

I actually just received the Trouble Every Day soundtrack yesterday, and man, I am absolutely loving it... they really are such a magnificent band. 😳

Look, in my opinion, there’s just zero room for growth in their music. You get one or two killer albums—which, let's be honest, they totally nailed—but after that, it all just turns into the same old repetitive loop. It gets monotonous fast. That's just how it hits me. And don't even get me started on them deciding to pivot to ska punk... what were they thinking? Total mistake.

Finally picked it up. 🙂

Personally, I'm still leaning towards the first one, but hey, it's a solid record regardless. 👍

Personally, I’d argue that ii is hands down their best work... though if we’re being honest, that debut album was probably the record of the year back when Melody Maker actually had some teeth.
This latest one hits the spot perfectly for me... sure, it might not be out there winning over a whole new crowd of casual listeners, but for those of us who have been around since the beginning? It’s pure bliss. 😉

Lhasa de Sal is a singer out of Montreal who put out an album called "La Llorona" back in '97, if I recall correctly. It wasn't bad at all. Had this cool, jazzy, gypsy vibe to it.

That’s quite good, I wasn't expecting that. Regardless, I still find their debut to be the best, especially Jism. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to it...

I completely agree; I suspect The Fillmore would be a bit too intimate for a crowd this size... but honestly, seeing them perform makes me perfectly fine with sweating through my shirt in the middle of November. I’m just so thrilled about it—I had actually already set aside a nice little nest egg specifically for the Munich 10/03 show, so now I can just redirect those savings toward seeing Manson on 12/12 in Vienna instead. 😉
