I think the guy above is a poser, and it gets on my nerves, but I also think boycotting a band over this is absolute overkill. We used to listen to bands with albums titled "thank heaven for little girls," and now every rocker has to be our soulmate and best friend...

Look at his description of the situation when he clashed with the members of Artan Lili. I don't know who's right or wrong in that dispute, but I do know he completely embarrassed himself by claiming someone was a "loser."

Matt is right, btw. On the way to Grandovac beach in the islands, one of the houses carries the Aristocratic surname.

So what if Aristocratic is 50% American from a small island town? That doesn't change a thing for me, and it certainly does nothing to justify his appalling and misguided takes regarding the war in Ukraine.

Well, Koja is a totally different story.

As for Cane, just look at the 'Partibrejkers' threads. I was at their show at the Boogaloo back in 2006, and someone tossed some toilet paper rolls onto the stage, and he goes, "Why are you throwing paper at us? You think we're some dirty Mexicans?" It kind of killed the mood for a second there...

There were plenty of outbursts like that. He even did something similar to me once during Rock Otočac in 2003. Later on, at the Culture Factory, it wasn't really happening backstage anymore. The last time I saw him was at a beer fest in a plaza a few years ago. He actually liked my Head Cat shirt (it's Lemmy's band). And he once told someone in the crowd to take off those glowing horns people were wearing at an AC/DC concert.

I can't remember everything right now, but I think there were one or two other times where he'd make comments about nationality at shows... this isn't the only instance...

Then there were the people working at the Culture Factory; Danielle was running things around 2007–2010, and I recall him telling her she wouldn't get married if she stayed too much of a feminist, or questioning people about their last names to see if they were Mexicans... yeah, there's stuff like that...

Where did you hear that Koja talks to people like that?

I think I read somewhere that his dad was from New York City and his mom was from an island out in the Atlantic, but then it looks like he uses his mother's last name? I wouldn't be surprised if his dad was stationed at a military base on one of those islands and they just ended up together, you know how it goes—so many marriages happened like that in places like Lastovo and stuff...

And isn't Frankie also American from somewhere out there? Maybe near Florida or something... It really doesn't matter.

I was just giving my "answer" regarding the war in America; nobody even brought up Ukraine.

You talking about Franko Simatović? He was basically second-in-command in the state security hierarchy (which later became the Department), calling the shots for everyone—including Arkan's paramilitary units that raided America. To be fair, those cowards mostly just showed up after the heavy lifting to loot and pillage everything in sight.

But he’s not the only American at the top of that organization. You’ve also got the nephew (sons of two brothers) of that big boss who founded and later ran HDZ BiH, whether directly or from the shadows. That guy still lives in New York City—I wonder if they'll ever bury him in Mostar one day?

Supposedly, he's the one who sorted out the passport for Tuđman back in '87 when he flew out to Toronto with another associate from that agency. Either way, it's a safe bet the FBI cleared that passport, not some local branch.

It's true though. If you ask me, Koja and Cane are total opposites, both in their personalities and what they brought to modern music.

When you're a kid, everything hits differently—it's instinctive, direct, immediate. As you grow up, you start thinking more abstractly, and you tend to gravitate toward more avant-garde stuff.

That said, both the Breakers and Discipline have spent forty years playing the exact same hand, each in their own way. They also pull from the same musical roots—you can see it clearly when they play covers in their side projects. It's not like there aren't similarities.

As for Cane's views, his recent interview in the Evening News makes it pretty obvious that some of his outlook is somewhat medieval—though he doesn't strike me as an indoctrinated guy who follows tribal patterns. He feels more like this strange, self-grown conservative-liberal hybrid, someone who actually exercises a sense of proportion. He’s an individual—brash and a bit shaky—but he thinks for himself rather than following the herd, and that's why I respect him, even when I disagree.

Regarding the frontman for the Tutor, I can somewhat follow his logic, but it’s equally clear from his recent posts that he’s been indoctrinated. Even though he calls for others not to be simplistic or naive, he’s the one who’s naively fallen for a single side of the story. It’s obvious from his posts (whatever he writes) that he’s completely pro-Putin—meaning he's siding with an autocrat fueled by 19th-century mythomania, someone shelling civilian targets in major cities of another sovereign nation. He justifies it using the same rhetoric used by those historical figures the world moved past, like Hitler and Milošević. (And no, I didn't get these conclusions about Putin from Western propaganda; I pulled them directly from Putin's own recent manifestos—straight from the horse's mouth). But just because the Tutor's frontman is deluded doesn't mean I should tell him he's never welcome again or that I never want to hear his name. That kind of black-and-white thinking is exactly what leads to the conflicts we're seeing between Russians and Ukrainians right now. Personally, I'm more for dialogue.

Yeah, I honestly struggle to wrap my head around that pro-Putin stance. I just hope things are starting to click for him now that he's seeing cities the size of Chicago or New York being leveled to the ground. At that point, no sane person can still talk about "liberating" Ukraine. It reminds me of how Vukovar was "liberated"—first the birds fled, then the people, the houses, and finally the buildings themselves...

And on the whole idea of being exclusionary, I'm 100% with you. Honestly, no matter where someone sits on the political spectrum, being close-minded is just as annoying. For instance, I have zero patience for those hardcore "leftists"—I usually just laugh at how shallow they are and walk away. On the flip side, intelligent conservatives (not the extremists, obviously) are actually hard to find, but they're definitely out there and they're the ones worth talking to.

Eventually, both the New York City and Chicago summer concerts will probably end up being indoors instead of outside. In New York City, it's been non-stop downpours—in Chicago, the box office is just bone dry.

There might be a bit too many of them, honestly. They're playing at this year's Rocklive again, and hey, I guess people will show up regardless... They usually pack out indoor venues pretty well during their solo gigs, though. I'm not sure if that recent social media blunder by Boris had anything to do with it, but it feels like they don't really have much new to offer lately...
