How do you guys deal with injustice? When things just aren't fair, how do you find peace—do you try to lie to yourselves to get by, or do you lean into the idea that there’s some kind of higher purpose behind all the chaos?

Honestly, I struggle with it so much. It’s genuinely painful for me when I realize that certain things are completely out of my hands, and no matter how hard I fight or what I do, it feels like it doesn't even matter in the end.

I’m trying my best to just... selectively forget the stuff that drags me down, you know? I want to fill my head with the things that actually make me feel bright and capable.

Now, controlling your own thoughts? Man, that's a tough nut to crack. But hey, if you find a place where people actually have your back, that's where you should look for meaning. Once you do that, you might start realizing that some situations aren't nearly as bad as they seem at first glance.

Thanks, Carl Rivera43.

bluepanther8, there’s honestly so much I want to get into, but I’ll save those thoughts for another time. For now, I just wanted to kick off a conversation about how you all deal with injustice—just any kind of unfairness, really.

Honestly, that’s probably my biggest Achilles' heel. I have this incredibly low tolerance for injustice—it’s one of those things that just completely drains me if I let it.
Lately, I've been trying to run this little mantra through my head: This is the world I live in. It isn't fair, and frankly, who ever claimed it was supposed to be? I might hate the reality of it, but obsessing over how unfair everything is... well, it's just self-destructive at this point. I live on Earth; it’s an imperfect place, but it’s the only one I've got, so I guess I just have to accept the chaos for what it is. 🤷

I can't stand injustice. It gets under my skin.
If I see something wrong, I try to fix it, I really do 😁 but half the time I just screw up—miscalculate things and end up making my own life harder trying to set things right 😁.
Then it hit me... justice is a myth. 😉

Well, really, it always comes down to how you manage stress—how you react to it—because "injustice," for you, is simply a stressor.
To someone else, what you're experiencing might not even qualify as an injustice; someone else might look at the exact same situation and see something entirely different.

You have to toughen up a bit, focus on a positive future, and stop taking everything so personally.

btw;

It was also stressful for me to read where you wrote that you lie to yours ?!
One cannot "lie oneself" (or "lie to oneself"); one can only lie to yourself. 😁
You can hit yourself, experience yourself, pamper yourself, or put makeup on yourself, but you can certainly tell yourself fairy tales; you can sing to yourself; because, you can't exactly sing your own self, can you? 😉

It really depends on the circumstances.
If I have any leverage at all, I’ll certainly try to exert it—not through direct confrontation, mind you, but perhaps by nudging one thing here or suggesting something there to influence the outcome...
However, when I find myself powerless to change the situation, I tend to spend a fair amount of time sulking and feeling rather dejected before eventually coming to terms with reality. :P
After all, we aren't exactly superheroes endowed with the ability to fix everything in our path.

Though, looking at your post, it seems to lean more toward a sense of life's inherent injustices...?
Or perhaps just circumstances that feel entirely out of your control...

And those kinds of things are... quite somber, and honestly, rather difficult to stomach.
But if you happen to have someone in your life you can talk to face-to-face—someone who truly understands your pain and offers that same empathy in return
then everything becomes a little easier to bear.

Karma always catches up. Everything comes full circle.🥳

If you find yourself stuck in a moment where it feels like things shouldn't have happened the way they did, try to consider that maybe, right now, this is actually the best possible outcome—for you, for someone close to you, or even for a complete stranger.

I honestly think it’s worth taking a step back to figure out where you actually fit into an unfair mess. Like, can you even change the outcome? Can your own actions help turn things around? If you’re truly powerless to fix it, you have to ask yourself if staying to take the hit is even worth it, or if it's just time to walk away.

When life throws something unfair your way, you've gotta do everything in your power to protect yourself, no matter what. Sometimes you need to stand your ground and fight back, sometimes you just need to bail, and other times it's smarter to sleep on it and see how the dust settles—but whatever you do, make sure you're looking out for number one.

It is an arduous struggle, yet one must find a way to endure it somehow. Jesse Mendoza4 articulated the situation with remarkable clarity.

You come into a thread about psychology and start correcting everyone's grammar instead.🤦
I honestly feel like if someone were calling for help and they were misspelling their plea, you'd probably be too busy fixing their spelling to actually step up and help them.😲

Thanks to everyone else for the replies!

If I’m actually sick enough to make an impact, then I start worrying about that whole "what goes around comes around" thing.

Most of the time, you can actually deal with an injustice if it's directed specifically at you. There are very few situations where you truly have to just shut up and take it.

What really gets under my skin is when things are completely out of my hands. Like seeing a headline in the New York Times about some kid from a wealthy family hitting a five-year-old in a crosswalk and getting nothing more than six months of probation because his parents pulled some strings. In a moment like that, I’d honestly want to tear that driver, his parents, and that pathetic judge limb from limb. I just try to ignore that kind of garbage; it sends my blood pressure through the roof for absolutely no reason, especially since there isn't a single thing I can do to change the outcome.

Not at all. I’m more of a revenge seeker myself. I prefer returning the favor whenever someone decides to cause me trouble...
And if I’m forced to just swallow it and move on? Honestly, I’ll just end up eating myself alive from the inside out. I don't really have the capacity to forgive and forget.
So, it always comes back to the same old thing—an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

I’m on the same page as Olivia Smith75. Personally, I find it much easier to handle setbacks when they hit me directly rather than seeing them happen to someone else. That’s why I tend to steer clear of reading the local crime blotters or listening to those heavy, negative news stories; they just drag my mood down.
Even though I’ve played a small part in a few minor injustices myself, I have to admit there’s a certain satisfaction in being able to step in and protect someone.

I have an inherent loathing for injustice, a condition I’ve been forced to endure for nearly my entire life. It seems the only way forward is to simply exist alongside it, yet I find I cannot stomach the unfairness or the blatant lack of faith in others. 🤮

I have to admit, I can’t stand injustice any more than the next person—it really gets under my skin—but I’ve come to realize that it’s just an inherent part of this world we live in. It seems like some people are just handed everything on a silver platter from day one, while others... well, others have to fight tooth and nail for every single inch of progress. You see unfairness everywhere you look, no matter where you go in the country, and honestly, seeing it can be quite painful. But at the end of the day, there isn't much any one individual can do to change the fundamental nature of things. I've found it's best to just accept it as one of those unavoidable realities of life.

Life isn't always fair; sometimes people get sidelined by injustice, while others get rewarded for things they didn't earn.

The reality is that most of the time, these situations are totally out of our control. One way I've found to protect my own peace is to simply create some distance from the people who seem to be benefiting from that unfairness.
