Hey, I could really use some advice from you guys... What's actually good for keeping your vocal cords in peak shape? The only thing I remember hearing about—and this was ages ago—is raw eggs. Like, the idea is to just swallow a yolk every single day or something like that... Does anyone else have any tips to go along with that? Maybe some other tricks?

I heard that yolk trick tastes absolutely revolting, but hey, if it keeps your voice sounding killer, who cares, right? You gotta be heard! 👍

I don't find it gross at all.

I'm drinking 2 or 3 raw eggs almost every night. I just poke holes in both sides and swallow them. The texture is a little weird—kind of slimy—but you get used to it after a while. If you don't get used to it, then you 🙂

By the way, I don't bother separating the yolks from the whites. I need the whole thing for my voice.😁

Almost every single night, I knock back two or three raw eggs. I just poke holes in both sides and swallow them whole. Sure, the texture is a little weird—kind of slimy—but you get used to it eventually. If you don't get used to it, then you 🙂

By the way, I don't bother separating the yolks from the whites. I drink the whole thing for my voice.😁

Alright, Willard—I want the full breakdown on this... 😕

I’m looking for some advice here. What should I be eating or drinking to keep my vocal cords in good shape?

Back when I used to sing in my church choir, they always told me to grab a little square of chocolate right before we went on stage. 😁

But honestly, I have zero clue how chocolate actually affects the voice. 😕

Drink raw eggs, quit smoking, skip the iced drinks, and keep the volume down (especially in loud spots). And obviously, watch out for the whole vocal apparatus, not just the vocal cords.

Seriously though, why do you even drink that stuff, amberorca192? I’ve gotta know.

Kate Kern6, look, I don't smoke, I don't touch cold drinks, and I'm definitely not the loud type. Back in high school, I was basically known for just screaming my head off, but I'm not at that school anymore so... yeah, that's over. I'll be back at work soon, though, and maybe I'll raise my voice once or twice here and there... just so people know who's actually running the show. 🙂

And what's the deal with those eggs? Are they actually legit? I just started trying one—well, I took a tiny sip, half a gulp really—and honestly, it was a bit much for me. The taste isn't even bad, per se, but that slimy texture... ugh. I tried mixing it with some water, hope that doesn't mess anything up. It was kind of lukewarm too. Now my stomach feels all weird...

What's the deal with these eggs, though? Do they actually work? I just started trying one, took a small sip, and honestly, it was plenty. The taste isn't even bad, just... slimy. I mixed it with some water, hope that doesn't mess anything up. It was kind of lukewarm, too. My stomach feels weird now.

Eggs are basically just yolks and whites.
The whites are where the protein lives.
When you cook them, the heat destroys those proteins, so I stick to raw.
Since I can't be bothered to separate the yolk from the white, I just down the whole thing.

Like I said, it doesn't taste gross, it's just the texture. Personally, I don't mind, but I'm sure some people would gag if they tried it.

It's weird, though—fried eggs actually make me feel sick, but drinking them raw doesn't. I don't get it.😕

Anyone got an explanation?🤔

at night?😲 I mean, wouldn't that be more of a morning thing?

Why do you need that many proteins [2-3 eggs] right before you go to sleep?

Calcium supplements, calcium pills... or honestly, anything else packed with calcium.
Because of my job, I always have them on hand—they’re basically a permanent fixture by my side.

I try to stay away from smoking too much, soda, yelling, whispering, or any of that weird, unnatural way of talking.

It's better to just speak at a moderate, steady volume.

I remember this one time after a massive party where my voice just completely gave out on me, and it was a nightmare because I woke up the next morning needing to head into work where my voice is literally my entire livelihood.

I ended up stuck on a regimen of calcium and total silence for ten days.

Hey! Sorry, but I really have to weigh in on this one. Nothing in an egg actually gets "destroyed" by heat, other than maybe some bacteria. The proteins just denature, which actually makes them easier for your body to digest.

Eating raw eggs is a gamble with Salmonella... or worse.
Plus, they’re a nightmare to digest.

So, I suppose it might be a bit wiser to skip the cigarettes if one intends on singing? 🙂
