Quick question—has anyone here actually gone abroad to volunteer? Specifically looking at Africa or South America. If you have, can you recommend a legit, reliable organization to go through for somewhere like Africa? Also, I'd love to hear some details about what the programs are actually like if you've been...

Have you done any volunteering before? Like, right here in the States? I’m not sure why someone would jump straight to Africa; there is plenty of work to be done helping people in our own backyard, and honestly, it's much closer to home. If you head overseas, you're looking at traveling halfway across the world and being away from everything you know for a long, long time...🙂
As for agencies, I can't say I know any offhand, but I doubt it'll be hard to find one. It's not like there's some massive rush of people trying to volunteer every single day.

If you happen to be down in Washington, D.C., just reach out to the local volunteer center, and they can probably pair you up with someone or at least point you toward the right people to contact... Just do a quick Google search for the Volunteer Center of Washington, D.C., and spend some time browsing through their website to see what's available.

It's not like helping locally won't make a difference, plus you stay close to everything. Going that far means being away from your life for a really long time...🙂
I don't know much about the agencies, sorry, but I'd imagine finding one wouldn't be too hard since it's not like everyone is rushing to volunteer all at once.

She wouldn't be volunteering; she'd basically just be traveling for free. ☕

You should check out our local hospice; they're always looking for volunteers.

Man, do these comments just prove how out of touch Americans are when it comes to actually caring about global issues? If anyone’s got some actual intelligent advice, feel free to drop it... otherwise, you can just save the snark for more entertaining topics. thanks
