Some friends of mine had one once—three tiers, but they were definitely heavier, and the whole thing seemed to lean heavily to one side, like every single layer was tilting in the exact same direction rather than being level.
It looked fantastic, though.
The cake was from Magnolia Bakery.

I wanted to make one myself, but I couldn't get the flavors right, so I gave up on the whole idea. Now I’m giving up on mini cakes too. They gave me the wrong info at M&M's: $5.00 per piece if they're in cups, but if they're individual ones covered in chocolate glaze, it's $8.25 per piece. That's way too much money for me. 😢

Why not just ask at Starbucks?

I gave some thought to catering from local spots, but M&M's is my go-to since we've been grabbing treats there for years... I've already ironed out most of the details with them, and settled on the exact cake I've had my eye on for a while. Honestly, I was torn between three choices: cupcakes, something fancy like the one pictured above (but maybe just a smaller version), or the third option—which is what I'll actually end up with—a square cake smothered in chocolate glaze.

Heading over to M&M's today.

So, cupcakes are out. I'm gonna talk to them about whipping up something using fructose instead—need that for a specific group of guests.

Flavor-wise though, should we go with mousse or parfait? 🤷

Regarding the diabetic options, they told me I could go with chocolate, vanilla, or even vanilla topped with chopped fruit... see what 🙂
says to you.
We haven't actually settled on the diabetic selection yet..
As for the flavors, we went with a chocolate mousse on the bottom tier, strawberry and chocolate parfait for the middle, and pistachio hazelnut parfait for the top.

Either way, I love it.

Side note—showed up late to the bakery today even though they stay open until 9 PM! What a joke.

Hmm... 🤔 I hadn't even considered that part... how to go about cutting it... Well, we'll find a way to make it work, I suppose.

You’ll figure it out for sure 👍.

Decided to tackle the cake and cookies today... we'll see how it goes...

It isn't the newlyweds cutting the cake; it’s the catering staff. 😬
Once that first slice is made on the mezzanine floor by the couple, the rest is their problem. I'm sure they can handle a dessert like that. 🙂

swiftranger16, hit me up later. I want to hear how it went. 😉

I found myself quite taken with it—mostly because it’s just so wonderfully out of the ordinary.

It's a stunning cake 👍, but if you don't mind me asking, what kind of damage are we talking about price-wise? 🙂

M&M's are the best.

We sorted out the cookies—honestly, I think I grabbed way too many, even though the lady at the bakery tried to talk me down 😂. But whatever, I can still fix that
.
I’m getting two cakes—one standard one and a small sugar-free option for the diabetics. We already picked the design (white with little lilac accents, square shape), and I’ll decide on the flavor later, but I'm leaning toward mousse. It's killer. I actually got some sample cakes to take home, so once I polish those off, I'll make a final call 🤣
.
EDIT: The sugar-free one is vanilla, chocolate, and whipped cream

I’ve got a fridge packed with bananas, some pears, and honestly, a bunch of other stuff I can't even name... and I'd really love to share it all with someone.

They did the same thing to us, shoving all those different parfait samples down our throats 👍
You really should have given their panna cotta a shot next time... 😉

We actually have a local baker handling this—she specializes in high-end wedding cakes, really quite the pro—and since we’ve known her for ages, she’s actually doing this one for us free of charge.🙂

Our cake is going to have four layers. The bottom layer will be something chocolate-based—which isn't really my thing, personally, but since we're doing a four-tier setup, we need that solid base to hold everything up. Above that, there's a fruit cheese parfait, followed by a fruit yogurt parfait, and finally, the top layer will be a hazelnut parfait (kind of like those gourmet spreads you find at Whole Foods). Weeeeeeeee!

So she runs her own small business? Man, we could've easily scored about ten homemade cakes and a full spread of pastries for the wedding for free—but nope, since the hotel won't budge without official invoices and paperwork, we're out of luck. 🤷

Whether you're looking at those small local diners or even some of the larger upscale spots, they don't really press you for that kind of paperwork. It feels like hotels are just trying to play it safe and cover their own bases.

Do you have any idea which small local spots you're talking about? Everywhere we've gone lately, people seem obsessed with getting those little paper receipts with their pastries—I guess it's just a way to shift the blame if someone gets food poisoning, right?
My mother-in-law is one of those people who’s always baking for everyone—back when my sister-in-law got married, the whole family returned the favor with enough homemade treats for two weddings, yet they still ended up having to buy basic snacks for the little ones.

There are a few... I don't really want to name names here publicly, especially since some of them might not be your favorite places anyway. 😉I'll shoot you a DM instead.
