I have a quick question for those of you who’ve gone the route of gifting cookies as presents. What kind of boxes did you end up using, and where did you pick them up? Also—and this is the part I'm a bit worried about—did any local bakeries give you a hard time because the packaging wasn't plastic? I’ve heard some rumor that according to health inspectors, you aren't supposed to distribute treats in cardboard boxes.

I spotted some cardboard over at the farmers market in a decent neighborhood. To be honest, I haven't a clue what they were charging for it 🤷

Well, they have those options available at the local print shop for $1.25—they’re just standard stuff, really—but my pastry chef was giving me this whole lecture today, acting like she was an FDA inspector or something, insisting that plastic is actually the better way to go. Apparently, there are all these regulations about food not being allowed in cardboard packaging, which is a bit much if you ask me... especially since I think the plastic ones look absolutely hideous.

Does anyone happen to have a clue about the pricing over at Monica’s bakery—you know, for their pastries or custom cakes?

Her cookies actually took first place. $27/lb
As for the cakes—I can't say for sure—but one smaller one we picked up was $40, though I didn't get a count on how many slices were in it.
The little pastries go for about $3.25 each.
If you're looking for the nitty-gritty details, just shoot her an email... she’s pretty quick to reply.

Drew Foster11 said:Hopefully my experience will be just as smooth... though my family gave me a hard time when I got home. They saw she’d just handed me the treats on a plain tray and wrapped the whole thing in plastic wrap instead of using one of those clear heart-shaped containers or even a standard folding box. Honestly, you can't win with the older generation. Then, the lady mentioned that people in my meeting room are now demanding the desserts be served under silver cloches. Like, seriously? Now I have to go out and buy those too? It’s not like the food is going to spoil if it's sitting out for a bit.

The cookies were laid out on some really pretty trays and looked great... personally, I think those plastic heart-shaped ones might be a bit much, but hey, everyone has different tastes... I tried searching online to see if there were any actual photos of the treats themselves, but unfortunately, no luck finding any shots of the cookies specifically...

I ended up ordering my cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, since they’re honestly the only ones I've found that actually impress me with their selection..
here's a photo of what it's supposed to look like 🙂

just keep in mind mine won't have any of that fondant—I can't stand it. I much prefer a cake where everything is actually edible.

It looks pretty, sure, but hey—fondant is edible too... unless you think it tastes terrible? 🤷 Personally, I think cakes look way more elegant when they use fondant.

I just ordered mine through a local boutique site:
http://www.freehouse.biz/ponuda_kate...dsek=5&idpg=13
I went with plastic containers since the cardboard ones were way too small for what I needed. Honestly, they don't look half as pretty as the cardboard ones, but would I really feel okay giving someone a gift that only holds five or six tiny cookies? No way.
I've used this site a few times before for things like car bows and confetti toss baskets... and honestly, the shipping speed and quality have always been spot on. 👍

I’m pretty sure they don't do the boxing up in those little containers—they probably just prep everything in the back. At least, that's my guess from when we toured the venue; they pointed out a specific station near the counter where they handle all the packaging.
🤷

Raymond Martinez4, I actually bought some PVC gift boxes locally for my mother-in-law once.

It probably just depends on which bakery you use. We ended up getting all our treats in huge catering boxes and had to move them into the smaller ones ourselves—but only because we ran out of time to bring the small boxes along! Normally, they would have offered to pack them straight into the individual ones for us.

Honestly, this site looks like a better bet for ordering those plastic containers, especially if you're looking at the price.

I wanted to share some praise for the lady over at Smile Bakery. She prepared a cake and several pastries for me, and I am beyond satisfied with the results. To be fair, I only managed to sample one of the cookies, but I certainly made quick work of two large slices of the cake. It was truly exquisite. I highly recommend her work. Here are a few photos.

I’m actually planning on swinging by Nothing Bundt Cakes later today to talk about ordering some treats myself! I had their sweets back in March and they were honestly delicious, plus the prices weren't bad at all. Does anyone know if their prices are still $22 or have they bumped them up since then?

I was at a wedding this past Saturday and they were serving desserts from M&M's... and I have to say, they were absolutely top-tier...

The price is still $19. For my last order—which included about 35 pounds of pastries and a large cake for a party of 100—it ended up costing me exactly 2 $47. 🙂

Thanks, ladies. In the end, I decided to go with the cardboard boxes instead. I don't know—they just felt more aesthetically pleasing to me... plus, I gave the pastry chef at the bakery a little heads-up: if any health inspectors happen to swing by (as if!), she should just say I was the one who packed them up and left them there because my fridge at home isn't quite big enough to hold everything.
