Honestly, people talk so much about this stuff! I don't think I've even eaten fifty desserts in my entire life... so they really don't mean much to me at all. And honestly, given everything else we had going on that evening, we didn't actually need them... I just find it a bit tacky having sweets sitting on the table when there's already meat and soup right there... plus, you generally know when it's time for dessert and when it's time for a real meal😂
So we ended up cutting them out, and somehow nobody seems to get what I'm saying... hellooo? Since John Doe is part of our group, there's always supposed to be at least one dessert sent over every single day🤣

For me, that’s more like a weekly requirement...😂

😲 😲 😲—so you aren't going to serve cookies to him or his family? Wow... how brave of you...😁

They'll have cookies at home... they'll have cake at the restaurant... and that's that. 😁

I actually mentioned this to my mother-in-law, and she agreed—she said that when you've already got cake on the table, serving extra sweets just doesn't make any sense... so I'm perfectly happy swapping them out for some hors d'oeuvres instead 😂

I honestly can’t wrap my head around why you all are getting so worked up over such nonsense. Personally, I think having a dedicated little corner just for cookies is a bit much—it feels almost excessive. At this rate, you won't even have any cookies left because everyone will be too self-conscious to go grab one, fearing they'll get judged for how many they're eating. Just put the cookies out on the table from the start and call it a day.

Or just don't bring them at all, haha.😂

For me, the real perversion is having desserts sitting right there on the table at the same time as the soup or the main course—but hey, what can you do? 😁

It’s only natural that people will eventually make their way to the table (when the time actually comes for it; it seems ridiculous to me when everything is crammed onto one round table—the decor, the meal, the wine, the sweets—leaving absolutely no room for anyone to just eat in peace)... but even then, everything will still be laid out on that single table.

Besides, it isn't like everyone is going to be sitting down constantly where they can precisely monitor who is grabbing which pastry... 🤣 people will be moving about, dancing... a little dance, then a cookie... a little dance, then another... 😁 😁 😁 they'll see the bride doing it too 🤣

I honestly don’t even know. Just thinking about the sheer amount of desserts I’d have to order makes me feel a little lightheaded. See, the tradition dictates we have sweets during the afternoon snack, and then when they head to the reception—which, in my case, would mean having a table piled high with treats right in front of the house—plus there's the restaurant portion, and finally, everyone gets a little something to take home. To top it all off, the older folks usually spend Monday morning dropping off leftovers to neighbors, acquaintances, and relatives who couldn't make the wedding... blah, blah, blah. Long story short, I'm looking at at least 120 pounds of dessert.

And that’s precisely why I insist on keeping a massive selection of pastries in my restaurant... since we don't host any pre-event gatherings, nor do we offer anything to our guests once the festivities wrap up 😁

actually, hold on—how many guests are you expecting to host?

Sure, we can always just deal with that mess at home... I mean, if we have to, we will, and it’s fine, but we made a point of leaving that out of the restaurant menu entirely...
Honestly, where I grew up, you’d never even see a plate of cookies sitting out at a wedding, so it feels completely natural to me that they aren't there... plus, since I'm not exactly a huge fan of them anyway, it was an easy decision to make...😉

Man, I envy you guys... We’re looking at about 170 guests. And I completely forgot—it’s a tradition where we bring gifts over on the Thursday and Friday before the wedding, so we'll need to have plenty of cookies ready by then too...
hahahahaha, I can't even deal.

It's the exact same situation for me... Thursday and Friday... because, well, I'm from the South:-))
But since we're getting married in New York City, we managed to dodge all those logistical headaches like guest arrivals, meal prep, and all that chaos...

😱😱 Don't scare me like that
The math:
170 people getting 0.25 oz of cookies per box = 43 lbs

Restaurant portion: 44 lbs
My batch at home: 62 lbs
His batch: 62 lbs...
= 168 lbs total
Good grief... hopefully that's enough food

Around here, there’s this lovely tradition where people bring over all sorts of sweets a few days before the wedding ceremony. It doesn't even matter if they’re actually on the guest list—friends, neighbors, or distant relatives—they just show up with treats! The couple ends up with mountains of cookies, and then, of course, we usually have the brunch or reception on Sunday to keep the celebration going.
As for the wedding guests themselves, I always say: let them help themselves! Honestly, having five or six courses followed by dessert at the reception is more than enough food. If they want to pack some leftovers to go, great; if not, well, maybe they'll just eat a little less next time! 😁
Those mass-produced, store-bought cookies often just sit there in huge quantities because, frankly, people aren't that big on them. I guess you shouldn't even bother stressing yourself out about those.

😂😂 I would be absolutely thrilled if things actually worked out that way. I’ll have to make sure to save this thread—I want to come back a few days after the wedding and report back on exactly how many pastries we managed to go through.

How did you figure out the dessert math? Did you go by headcount or per couple? We ordered 45 pounds for the guests and another 45 for the buffet table—enough for 150 people, I guess, if you're feeling optimistic
