Ashley Price57 said:"Are you prepping your nipples for breastfeeding?"
-"No, I read that it's actually useless nonsense"
"But I was covered in sores! You have to scrub them with a towel!!!"
-"I won't... That isn't recommended anymore. Thanks for the advice, though.."
"Fine, maybe I am old-fashioned, but I'm just trying to help you. Everything has changed lately, but my intentions are good, you know? Don't take this the wrong way, I only want the best for you. Whatever, I just hope you don't end up having bad luck like I did with those wounds... I was just thinking of your own good, okay?"
-"Right, thanks.."
"Am I really that old-fashioned? Honestly, you modern moms have the internet and everything at your fingertips, but you can't believe everything you read. You say you won't give the baby chocolate, but just wait until they ask—you'll see how hard it is to say no then. It's easy for you to talk now, but I'm telling you this for your own sake so you don't make decisions too early. Not everything on the internet is accurate, you know..."
-"Thanks for your opinion, but I'm sticking to my guns: a six-month-old doesn't need bananas or chocolate.."
"BUT I'M TELLING YOU FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.........."

God, these conversations are so exhausting... Am I just being overly sensitive? 🤔

It’s funny how that works—my mom was rambling on about some random stuff she found online, and when I pointed out that the internet was actually saying the exact same thing she was, she just went quiet. It was one of those moments where there’s nothing left to say, I guess. She usually has her opinions on everything, though she did struggle a bit with the whole idea of how things work for a newborn here in the States; my sister and I eventually had to step in and walk her through it just so we could all be on the same page.
Charles Miller3 said:Lately, I've been hearing it from both sides—they’re all insisting I need some fancy baby carrier just to get the little one out of the hospital. Their logic? "Oh, we all carried you in carriers and look how fine you turned out!" Like, seriously? I've told them a hundred times—no, we're using the car seat. But nope, Mom’s back at it with her nonsense: "But I saw such a cute little Moses basket!". 😁😁

Newbiee, what do you say—want to head down to the workshop together? 😉

Here we go again... 🤦
Another text from the Godfather. 🤦
Classic move—basically saying "fine, it takes two to tango, we won't meet if you don't want to, whatever..." Just, totally over the top! This guy is actually losing it!!!
Man, I swear, I hear some crazy stuff every single day...
Honestly? Not even worth my breath to reply. 🤦

Charles Miller3 said:brightridge19, you should also tell those geniuses that the fine is $167 if you aren't using a proper car seat for your kid. Maybe they actually care about "love" or whatever—since clearly safety isn't on their radar. People seriously underestimate how chaotic driving is these days. 🥳

Unfortunately, that's just how it goes. When none of the logical arguments seem to stick, I usually just bring up the legal penalties, and suddenly everyone goes quiet.

You know what—I told myself I wasn’t going to let this get to me. But honestly? My child isn't stepping foot in a car without an appropriately installed car seat. Let them try to argue with me—any court in the country would side with my postpartum 🤣 🤣 🤣

Fortunately, we live so close to home that if they won't comply, the little one can just stay cozy in the stroller for that quick two-minute stroll from the corner store back to our place, and everyone wins 😍

Anthony Watson35, just ignore them! It’s pretty obvious that trying to explain this clearly isn't really going to work.

Honestly, it’s pathetic—some people just have zero shame, period. 👎

You poor things...
I haven't even been asked what I need to bring the baby home in yet...
My mother-in-law hasn't once checked if we need anything, since we supposedly have everything ready... My husband told them he'd buy the stroller, probably just because he said we should ask for one,
but honestly, money is tight right now...
As long as he keeps making me that salad every third day... I guess that’s the most important thing.

I once watched a grandmother try to give her three-month-old grandson ice cream, a banana, a Milk Snatch, and even a chunk of meat to suck on...😲😠 😲😠I swear, I nearly lost my mind when I saw that; I just turned around and walked straight out of the room...

I told my mom right away that once we get home, we’re sitting down for a very serious sit-down about how MY baby is going to eat and what they are allowed to drink. And I made it clear she shouldn't even bother coming over unless things with my mother-in-law are perfectly smooth, because honestly, it's better to have her here than dealing with the MIL. I know, I know, I can be a total dragon when it comes to my mom and my in-laws, but I mean it!😍😍

Well, surely you wouldn't leave YOUR OWN CHILD alone with people you don't trust to provide adequate care, would you?

Otherwise, if you ask me, you all are being far too sensitive! You really don't need to argue, debate, or play along by nodding and saying "yes, yes, yes..." to everything. Just ignore them. Or simply say, "thanks for the advice," and shut down the conversation about your parenting choices.
You are going to overhear a billion pieces of advice—some stupid, some helpful, and many totally unnecessary—so please, just protect your peace of mind!

Someone always manages to chime in with, "Oh, it would be just wonderful if you could give birth a little earlier." Like, excuse me? It’s not as if I have some kind of master switch I can just flip to make my little one arrive on command. People are truly something else.

It really gets under my skin too, especially since I have absolutely no desire to go into labor early. I mean, after the 38th week? Sure, maybe. But before that? No way. I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to push that idea on me.

Honestly, I'm glad you dropped by this thread, even if you're acting all super chill and trying to remind us how "oversensitive" we all are.👍

The whole point of our discussion is that even if you try to handle it your way—just saying "thanks for the input"—the lecturing doesn't stop. And we aren't talking about random busybodies from down the street here; we're talking about our own moms. Look, I respect my mom to death, but I feel like she deserves an actual explanation as to why the baby is going out in a car seat instead of a bassinet, even if I have to repeat myself a dozen times.☕

They're trying the same thing with me. 🤣🤣🤣 I honestly don't get it—as if a heatwave is supposed to trigger something... 🤷

Man, looks like we're all dealing with the exact same headaches!
Same thing happened with my mom... which is wild because she’s actually super smart and level-headed. She was all like, "But how are we supposed to bring the baby out?" I told her straight up, "In the US, if there's no car seat, the kid isn't getting in the car." She just goes, "But why does it even matter?!" Honestly, once I ran out of actual arguments, I just hit her with, "Well, it's the law, and you're the one who taught me to follow the rules." That shut it down immediately. Case closed.

Ugh, I totally feel this... We’re about to start introducing carrots to our little one around the three-month mark. My mom actually grows organic, pesticide-free carrots in her garden just for him, which I am seriously so grateful for. I told her we'll just play it by ear—if he seems interested in the food, he'll get a little taste to try, but if he's not feeling it, I'm definitely not going to force him.

👍 I totally get that. My pediatrician actually gave me the same lecture—asking why on earth I’d bother with such an expensive car seat when we aren't constantly driving long distances. I just looked her straight in the eye and said, "Look, someone could hit us just pulling out of a Starbucks parking lot, and I'm really not looking to gamble with my kid's life." She went dead silent after that.

So, it really comes down to this: will you develop a thicker skin, or are you prepared to spend the rest of your life feeling frustrated by unasked-for opinions? Is it worth being upset because someone you actually respect doesn't respect you enough as an adult to honor your choices, even after you've laid them out clearly?

I am not trying to lecture anyone here, but there really are only two paths forward: either you stand your ground and refuse to let others interfere, or you will find yourself completely drained by constant explanations if you don't establish firm boundaries from the start.

It sounds like the folks in your neck of the woods didn't leave you much choice but to toughen up.

Terry Ramos60, maybe you could take it down just a notch? Honestly—the girls just come here to vent and blow off some steam, and I think they really need that space. It probably wouldn't help to add any extra tension to the mix. 😉

It’ll just be a bunch of hand-me-downs and some old man's legacy—and honestly? They probably won't even hold onto any of it. Realistically? Never. 🙄

It’s driving me insane. I'm pissed, I'm frustrated, and honestly, I'm just exhausted... looking at my bank statement today and seeing that my mortgage payment jumped up from last month to this one $66 😲 😢
I get it, most people are feeling the squeeze too, but that doesn't make a damn bit easier to swallow... especially since there isn't a single thing I can do to fix it...

What's the move here? Sell my firstborn? 😁

😂 🙏 😂
Not sure a "model" that thick even exists. ☕
Between my own laziness, being a total wreck when I first wake up, acting like a know-it-all (both here and in real life), and then there's just general human stupidity and cheapness... yeah, I could probably find plenty to be annoyed by. 😢

I'm not certain either, but I guess every problem has its solution. 😂
