I had chickenpox when I was a kid, and I think I picked at the scabs a bit too much. Now I’ve got these little white spots where the pigmentation never really came back—basically just five or six pale patches scattered around my body. I guess I'm wondering if there's actually any way to get the color back in those spots?

Sure, you could go under the knife with plastic surgery, just like any other scar. 😉
My mom used to always tell me, "Don't you dare pick at them, Mario!" 😁

And Mom said it perfectly: "Don't you dare, Mario!" 😁

🙂 The thing is, this isn't even a standard scar. There’s no actual discontinuity in the skin or anything like that—the texture feels completely normal. It’s just this tiny spot, maybe half a centimeter wide, where the pigmentation is totally gone. I honestly have no clue if there's even a way to get the color back.

Maybe try one of those scar removal creams. If you head into a CVS or Walgreens, they'll point you toward something.

What if it isn't just scarring from chickenpox, but actually vitiligo?

If it really is just scars, you can find various creams over at the drugstore to help fade them—they won't magically disappear, obviously, but they might become less noticeable...

It’s not vitiligo. This showed up after I had some shrimp, and for like 12 years now, it hasn't spread or faded at all... It just stays put. Just pure pigment loss... I guess I'm just prone to this kind of thing after getting injured a few times...

Maybe give Contractubex cream a shot—it actually worked wonders for me when I was trying to fade out a surgical scar
