Wi-Fi driver help needed

Hi there.

I can't get online via Wi-Fi; I keep getting an error saying "Disconnected - No Connections Are Available."
It looks like a driver issue since I just finished installing a fresh OS about an hour ago.

I installed Windows 8.1 on my Dell Inspiron.
I went to the manufacturer's site, grabbed the drivers specifically for Windows 8.1, and ran them, but the Wi-Fi driver is still nowhere to be found.

When I check Device Manager under network adapters, all I see is:
- Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
- Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
- Realtek PCIe Family Controller

It feels like there should be a wireless LAN entry in there somewhere.
The catch is that I can't plug this laptop into the router via Ethernet to let it scan for updates or figure out exactly which driver is missing, because I don't have an Ethernet cable.
My only way to get online is through Wi-Fi, but I lack the very driver needed to make that happen—and I have no clue which specific one I actually need.

To make matters worse, under "Other devices," I have a 3D Video Controller and a Network Controller flagged with those yellow warning triangles, and I can't find drivers for those either.

Does anyone have a solution? Every single thing I search for online says the same thing: "Just plug in an Ethernet cable and scan." Well, newsflash: I DON'T HAVE A CABLE. I have to fix this entirely offline.
I have another laptop (a Dell Inspiron) that I've been using to download various drivers and transfer them over via USB, but nothing I try seems to work.
Honestly, I'm at a total loss here.

You should be able to grab the drivers right here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/

Try heading over to the Device Manager, right-click that specific part with the yellow exclamation mark, hit properties, and hunt down the hardware ID. Just plug that ID into Google to see what you're actually dealing with.

ps: when you picked up that router at home, it probably came with two Ethernet cables in the box...

I’ve tried downloading them from there myself.

But whenever I check the drivers in Device Manager, everything shows up as either Unknown, Not Available, Not Digitally Signed, or just a blatant "Device Has Problem" error.
Basically, they're impossible to find.

I even attempted to hunt down the specific Wi-Fi model online to grab the driver directly from the manufacturer's site, but no luck—nothing turns up.

From what I can see under the WLAN section, it shows up like this: Qualcomm Atheros Wireless Lan Driver and Application

And then there's the second item: Realtek Wireless Lan Driver and Application

Plus a third one: ASUS wireless radio Control (basically the driver used to toggle Airplane mode

The tricky thing about this laptop is that—as you can see—it actually has three different manufacturers' drivers listed for the WLAN card. So, if you tried the first one, the Qualcomm version, and it didn't do the trick, maybe give the Realtek one a shot? And if that doesn't work either, try the last one, the ASUS one. One of those three really should get you up and running... assuming the laptop model you mentioned is indeed 🙂

The issue here is that these laptops actually ship with three different possible WLAN card manufacturers, as you can see. If you tried the first one—that Qualcomm driver—and it didn't do the trick, you'll need to try the Broadcom option next. If that also fails, move on to the final one, the Asus version. One of those three is bound to work, provided that the laptop model you mentioned is actually the correct one. 🙂

I finally did it. I hooked it up via Ethernet at a buddy's place, ran a driver scanner, and the software sniffed out exactly what I needed and installed it automatically. Success at last.
