Regarding those Dorothy Perkins sizes—well, usually a UK 18 is an American 14/16. I have a pair of their skinny jeans in an 18 and they fit okay, but I’m typically a 14 or 16, and these were cut *really* skinny with a super low rise 🤷. My main gripe is that everything is just so short—not exactly the best move for tall girls, especially when looking for winter gear. Everything feels short to me—sleeves, legs, even jacket hems that should hit my hips end up sitting just below my waist; I'm about 5'11".

I’ve got some light transitional jackets in a UK 18 and there's still plenty of room in the bust 😲. Probably because the average American woman carries a bit more curves in the chest area than you'd expect, so the bust isn't totally flat. 😂

Honestly, those customer reviews on the website are the most helpful thing when you're actually placing an order.

Just shop them like you would H&M, though DP tends to run a bit larger and shorter—unless the comments say otherwise.

Generally speaking, American brands tend to have a bit more generous sizing. For instance, the La Redoute jackets I own are a US 14 and fit perfectly—they aren't even tight in the chest anymore (yay! I actually lost about an inch since my last measurement 😳) and those feel like true-to-size numbers. I'd say I'm a solid US 14 (as mentioned before). Dorothy Perkins in a UK 18 is way more comfortable for me than stuff from La Redoute, and don't even get me started on ASOS—from now on, I'm ordering my tops there in a UK 14. 🙄

So, here is the answer to that:

ASOS is definitely an 18—maybe even a 16 if you're closer to a 14 and it's not a super skinny fit. For Dorothy Perkins, go with an 18 or a 20, depending on the cut (and what people are saying in the reviews).

🙂 When I was trying stuff on in the store, almost all the tops were too short (I'm 5'10'') whereas blouses feel nicer when they sit just below the navel. 🤣 I don't usually run into this, but DP is the only one with such short cuts. That's why with them, I stick to visibly longer sweaters, baggy tees, and stuff like that.

I grabbed the longest pants available (at least based on the photos) because on one pair, the model barely reached the heel of her boots, and I'm roughly 🤔 tall. I'm hoping they turn out okay.

These guys also have this whole thing about finding your true fit. Only issue is—for every single dress I look at—it says they’re snug in the bust, but way too loose in the waist and hips. 🤣

Every single one I’ve clicked on just tells me "this item is not recommended for you." 🙂 😬

Laura Murphy2 said:I’ve been lurking in this thread for a while now, and I have to say, it’s actually been pretty helpful for finding new online shops.🙂 Well, I finally decided to just jump in and actually participate properly...
My weight tends to fluctuate quite a bit, so my closet is basically a mix of everything from a US size 6 to a 16. (I still haven't figured out how to make the weight stay off once it's gone, I guess.🙂) Right now, I’m in one of my heavier phases—maybe a 14 or 16 up top, and a 16 or 18 on the bottom.🙂
Anyway, back to the point... about two weeks ago when Dorothy Perkins had free shipping, I picked up these pants:http://www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpu...5d&bi=21&ps=20 I ordered a size 20. The fabric and look are great, and since I'm about 5'10", the length is perfect. Though, if I had tried them on first, I probably would've gone a size down. They're loose in the waist, but they fit my hips—which is my widest part—just right, so I'm actually happy because I can just wear a belt and call it a day. Honestly, when I put my measurements into their size guide, it told me I was a 22, but I figured the guide was just wrong, and I was right.😉
I ended up ordering again yesterday since they have free shipping again.🙂
http://www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp...atalogId=33053
I went with the 20 again since the 18 was out of stock, and I grabbed an L because I was worried the R might be too short. I guess we'll see how this goes.🙂

How much did they run you?

Both of them were just 15 bucks plus free shipping, I guess.

😉😍 Look, you guys should just sell us all the stuff you buy that ends up being total junk. Seriously. Even if it’s just at cost, you get some cash to go grab the newer, better versions, and we get a sweet deal on the leftovers

Yeah, I’m always down for that, I mean, why hold onto things that don't work? I haven't even worn these first ones yet—they still have the tags on them—but I bought them for a specific reason, I guess I just haven't had the right moment to wear them yet. If I don't start wearing them soon, I'll probably just list them, especially since I'm hoping they end up being way too big for me once my diet actually kicks in for the thousandth time.🙂
As for the other stuff I ordered from the pre-sale, I'm really hoping it's love at first sight, but if they don't fit, I'm getting rid of them immediately.🙂
Anyway, Poshmark rules! I rarely buy anything there—maybe twice so far—but everything I've listed was either a wrong order or something that ended up being the wrong size.😉

But yeah, that's definitely the best way to handle it. Regarding the diet thing, I’m sticking strictly to size 14-16. No deviations. And whatever, I've got enough other issues to deal with, so I'm not stressing out about THAT. At my current weight, I think it's fine. I can't go lower, and honestly, I don't want to look like those people who weigh 110 lbs. Back then, I was basically a walking skeleton at 130 lbs and 5'10". 🤣 🤣

I get that... though I'm only, what, 25? And honestly, even two years ago, I was probably carrying about 50 pounds less than I am now. It's been a bit of a ride—going from being a competitive athlete to dealing with a spinal injury and surgery at 23, plus some hormone stuff. So yeah, I ended up right where I am, having swung about 50 pounds back and forth over the last few years. 🙂 But anyway, that’s a whole different conversation. I’m actually here because I'm trying to find a professional look for my wedding since I just graduated college. 😉

I think Next is actually great for that, especially since they carry most stuff in both Regular and Tall. The materials are super high quality and really hold up. For example... Check out this collection of women's tailoring from Next: http://www.next.co.uk/shop/gender-wo...on-tailoring-0

Hey there!🙂
Not totally sure if this belongs here, but I wasn't sure where else to ask. Does anyone know an online shop or even a regular store that carries larger size hats without breaking the bank? (Looking for something like this: http://www.asos.com/Catarzi/Catarzi-...rt=-1&clr=Nero). I found some at H&M, but they were all one-size-fits-all, and unfortunately, they just don't fit my head! :/

I’ve heard about Next before, and looking at what you posted, I kind of like it too... I’ll probably spend some time checking them out. Thanks! 😉

H&M actually does vary sizes—they carry S, M, and L. There’s an L (size 58) still available in the Austrian site: http://www.hm.com/at/product/13811?article=13811-A

Our fellow forum member Good evil is actually putting together a group order for H&M in Austria right now, so maybe check with her if a 58 cm fits you okay. 😉

On another note—suddenly feeling like getting married again. 😬

It's gorgeous. 😍 Valentino, $2785 (size 46, US 14, UK 18). It’s just simple enough for my taste, lovely colors, and I’m guessing the quality is top-notch too.

So, who’s gonna be the first one to drop a pic of their outfit? And yeah, you gotta include yourself in it too, obviously 😁

No problem, let me know if you end up ordering anything. 🙂

Kioko, the dress is gorgeous but that price tag... 🙂

Speaking of weddings, does this dress look too plain for a maid of honor? Picture it with a nice shrug, some jewelry, and killer heels 😁 It's for a winter wedding, so the fabric is thicker even if it doesn't look like it in the photo.

I'm totally feeling it... just the color, though, you know? Definitely not black. What were you thinking of going with?

Hmm, I have a sister too, are you L.? 😂
I feel for your sister, I know how she is. 🙂
@Charles Gomez4, the dress is awesome, even the black color doesn't bother me since everything is accented with those bright colors and jewelry, though I'm not really a fan of boleros, unless we mean the same thing (that short thing that goes just under the bust with long sleeves?). I feel like that bolero just ruins the little dress, or maybe I just haven't seen a good one. 😕
I was at a wedding recently and really wanted to post a photo to break the ice, but I don't have a single shot of myself where I actually look decent. Maybe if I get dressed up again I'll take a picture... if that's weird. 🤣
@Rebecca Doyle6, the inspiration is actually pretty inspiring... there really are some beautiful pieces of clothing out there!😍
