Yeah, honestly, you’ve got a point there—I was thinking the exact same thing! Both of those bands sound pretty much identical to me, don't you think?

No, I didn't mention that anywhere... It's just that I can't stand the whole idea of treating Arcade Fire like they're some kind of "rock legends" coming to save modern music or whatever else people claim

Daft Punk 👎 Tricky 👎 The Killers 👎 Franz Ferdinand 👎 Moby 👎 Editors 👎 Tracy Chapman

There you go, buddy 😛.. safe to say you totally missed the mark!
People seriously can't see the forest for the trees; they’re always nitpicking over nothing.
Personally, the only thing I bother nitpicking is Arcade Fire and their funerals 😁🙂 and that overly dramatic "portrait of modern American suburbia" (TM by Dragaš 😁)

I mean, I’m personally holding out hope that we see Portishead as the other headliner. It feels like about 90% of the lineup this summer is basically just acts performing alongside AF anyway.

Honestly, I don't think that would draw much of a crowd. System of a Down would be a massive hit—probably the move if they actually wanted to break attendance records.

I honestly think Burzum would have been a better choice.

Portishead wouldn't draw a massive crowd? I really couldn't disagree more. In my book, they sit right up there with a band like Sonic Youth, and I’m fairly certain their name alone would pull in a significant crowd of the 30+ crowd, though I suppose that's just my own little take on things...

I think you might have been a little too early on that System of a Down prediction a couple days ago—scary thought! But hey, you know what they say: never say never! 😁
And honestly? I think you're missing the mark here; Portishead would draw a massive crowd. It’s actually the only thing that makes sense—imagine seeing Seattle vibes right in the middle of Central Park:
2009: Tricky
2010: Massive Attack
2011: Portishead
😁

🙂

Okay, maybe not everything I listed was strictly positive, but that's the general vibe I'm going for...
But seriously, it's just you and a few others constantly riding Arcade Fire hard—once a few more bands get announced, reading this thread is going to be such an exhausting chore... though maybe I should just spend a little less time lurking around here! 😳

I thought Lily Allen was alright, and honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Florence + The Machine show up—they’ve got that one absolute masterpiece, even if the rest of their set is just okay...
Massive Attack definitely hit harder for me than the guys who were performing. 😛

But look, the real dealbreaker here? Everyone is basically holding their breath waiting for Portishead. 🙂

Florence Nightingale has a concert scheduled in the USA right during the festival, so I highly doubt it.

Portishead is just on a whole different level... they're honestly worth every penny if you can snag a ticket.
Anyway, I was catching some Arcade Fire on MTV via VH1 today and man, they sound so much better live than they do on their records, though I still don't quite get why everyone is obsessing over them so much. It feels like this current generation is just desperate to find that one defining band to represent their era, so they've plucked someone slightly above average out of a sea of mediocrity and now they're worshipping them the same way kids used to worship Nirvana...

I was actually sitting around watching some Arcade Fire on MTV via VH1 earlier today, and I have to say, they sound pretty incredible live—probably even better than their studio recordings—but I still can't quite wrap my head around all this massive hype surrounding them. I suppose it’s just that this current generation seems desperate to latch onto some definitive band that defines their era, so they’ve plucked one group that's perhaps a single notch above the endless sea of mediocrity and now they're worshipping them with the same kind of fervor kids used to reserve for Nirvana.

Look, while I don't necessarily agree with the second half of what you wrote, I really do have to concur with your first point, which is to say they are truly spectacular in a live setting (even if they didn't quite manage to get the crowd moving past the first few rows at the concert), and they are genuinely a joy to listen to and watch. 🙂

Honestly, they just feel so intense when you see them live—it’s not even about how they sound, it’s just that they get so incredibly swept up in the performance that it actually feels a little awkward to watch them 😳

I get that feeling, but not when I watch them. You can see it's natural for them... they actually feel what they're playing or singing. Sounds pathetic, I know. But the guy on keys and everything else is just totally lost in it. It's hilarious. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us... 😁

What does 'unjkav' even mean? This word keeps popping up on this thread so often that I’m actually starting to feel embarrassed that I don't know it yet.

Just Google "unjkav" and its variations and try to wrap your head around it. 😁
Personally, I just use it to describe a general vibe... 🤣 It's an undefined term... but it works perfectly for moments like this.. haha

A bit lukewarm, weak, pathetic—just "wishy-washy," I guess...

Aha, just googled it... apparently, it means nasal. Truth be told, nonetheless. 😁

Yes, I know I could have just Googled it, but I wanted to see how you all actually use it in context...
Thanks for clarifying. 🙂
