I pick up treats from La Dolce Vita every now and then—we actually grabbed some birthday cakes from there recently and everything was super tasty—but honestly, I have no clue what their wedding cakes or catering options are like, or even what they charge...

Sophia Jackson46 said:Does anyone know how much a wedding cake costs over in Ann Arbor? And are they actually any good?

Look, honey, I'll give it to you straight—we did both pastries and the cake from Clarion, plus some homemade stuff and a restaurant, and we were beyond thrilled!!!

Seriously, a ton of people kept asking me after the wedding where the treats came from because they were just so damn good...

We didn't want to mess around or cheap out on this, so we just ordered everything from Clarion. We went with a mix—half bite-sized cookies and half creamy ones. I sat down with my aunt and picked out every single type and how many pounds of each we needed. A pound of the creamy ones will run you about $33, and the cookie types are $30. You can choose whether you want them arranged on trays or just delivered in big cardboard boxes.

For the cakes, we had Black Forest, chocolate parfait, and one from Clarion. I didn't try the Clarion one myself, but obviously, it was a massive hit—so many people were asking me what that "Christmas cake" was so they could order it for themselves later...
A cake for 220 people is roughly $807, depending on which flavors you pick—the parfait is, say, cheaper than those other two at $13.

Anyway, if there's anything else you wanna know, just ask...

Good luck!

Has anyone else here had a chance to try that orange nougat cake over at McCafé? It’s actually more of a dark, rich cake than anything else.

I found it absolutely divine... honestly, if I could have a cake like that at my wedding, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. 😍😍👍

Does anyone happen to know a local bakery or pastry chef that specializes in something similar?

Michael Martinez16 said:Alright, here’s my firsthand take on their pastries.

I copied this from another forum because I can't be bothered to retype it all.
I was prompted by yesterday's conversation with Mr. Mary from the Kašnar bakery over in Dubrava.
Back in February, we put down a deposit for 25kg of assorted pastries and a wedding cake, totaling $1133. The deal was 24kg of mixed treats and a mandatory 1kg of Šubarica for our table.
The first shock hit on the actual wedding day when my husband went to pay the balance and pick up an extra 8kg of pastries for the guests. The guy working at the shop had absolutely no clue where our order was. He actually had the nerve to ask me to show him a catalog just to prove which cake we ordered! Then he calls the kitchen to ask if they even have enough pastries left. Just as I'm finishing my makeup, my husband calls me panicking because the shop has nothing—they're completely lost.
We get to the venue, and after a while, we ask the waiter where the Šubarica is. Of course, it wasn't delivered... I was losing my mind.
Then comes cake time. A waiter comes over and warns us to be careful cutting it because the cake is wobbling everywhere. It didn't even arrive at the restaurant until 6:30 PM. Apparently, they didn't even start making the cake until my husband left the shop around noon.
I can't say much about the taste since it wasn't even fresh, but the real kicker came on Sunday. My sister-in-law wanted to give some leftover pastries to the neighbors, and a couple of the packs were already moldy. What a disgrace.
I stopped by the bakery yesterday to ask for their complaint book, but guess what? They don't even have one. Isn't that supposed to be displayed clearly by law?
I called Mary, the owner, and told him everything that happened. He just had the audacity to ask me, "Where have you been until now?" I'm telling you, I am never stepping foot in that bakery again. They are totally unprofessional, and honestly, what happened to us could happen to anyone. The man didn't apologize once; he just kept shouting that it was impossible. When I asked how it was possible to need a catalog to find an order on the wedding day, he just shut up. I gave him a piece of my mind and walked out.
I just hope anyone thinking about using Kašnar's realizes they might end up ruining their perfect day.

Oh boy, that sounds like something you should report to the health inspector.
We had their cake at a wedding once, and if I'm being honest, I didn't find it good at all. 👎

I don't know, maybe I missed it in previous threads, but I figured I'd just ask anyway—does anyone happen to know where I can find some actually good, delicious, and pretty pastries around Požeg and the surrounding area? Thanks!

Hi ladies,

Has anyone here tried the pastries from Grabar's bakery?

My husband and I go there for treats all the time, and they’re delicious. Honestly, their prices are even better than M&M's or Cukeraj, and definitely cheaper than any of those spots on the West Side we've visited.

I'm not looking at them for the wedding cake—we'll likely go with Vincek for that—but I'm curious about their individual pastries and how they handle wedding dessert service in general. I'd love to hear any experiences you might have!

Thanks,

Hmm, let me think...

How about this: I’m not paying more than $27 a pound for cookies! I’d love to hear from someone who’s actually tried them or worked with them—I want to know if they’re actually good!

Any thoughts? 🙂

We ended up getting both the cake and the cookies from Grabar, and honestly, I couldn't be happier. That cake in the photo? They made it look exactly like my reference. As for the cookies, I just told them how many people were coming; I didn't bother listing specific flavors or exact counts because, really, what's the point? (I wasn't buying them all for myself, so I wanted to make sure there was enough variety for everyone's tastes anyway), plus I didn't even have a clue how much I'd need for a crowd that size. We actually ended up with way too many! But the thing that mattered most to me—aside from that one single agreement about the cookies—was how easy everything was; they delivered them straight to the catering service and handled all the scheduling themselves without me having to lift a finger. Seriously, hats off to them, and for what it's worth, they tasted delicious to me...

Check out Mus or Absum over in Karlovac. Honestly, I have no clue who in Washington, D.C. is selling cookies that cheap. 😢
My godmother used to buy from Mus about two years ago, and I had them again at that fair at the arena last time—they were great. I think it’s about 60 or $22 a pound.
I'll probably just grab mine from Absum; it's $18 a pound, and after tasting them at the fair, I know they're good.
Shipping runs about 100-$50.

$27 It's by the pound. Same price as the little bakery in Oakwood.

Cukeraj, M&M's, Charlotte, and Vincek are pricier. I actually gave them a call the other day.

Honestly, I’m not going to make my life harder than it already is—I'll just get everything from Monica. I order her little treats too, so if people dig them, great; if not, hey, what can you do? It's impossible to please everyone anyway.

Donna Chase12, what’s the verdict on the cakes? Chocolate glaze, whipped cream, fondant, or something else entirely?

I’m going to make them exactly like the ones in that wedding link... chocolate and vanilla cakes, with that same half-chocolate, half-vanilla glaze—which I actually love because it feels way more "natural" to me... plus, I'm really not about that artificial stuff.

Anyway, here are a few more pics.
