I’m genuinely mourning this loss🤷...even at restaurants, they won't serve us anything actually made from scratch. Every single store-bought cake and pastry tastes incredibly bland to me. Now I’m out here hunting for local ladies who run small catering businesses and bake real desserts, and let me tell you, they are going to charge us an absolute fortune. It honestly makes me want to just start my own bakery.😠

We actually asked the venue manager if bringing our own cake was an option, and he gave us the green light—no paperwork requested, none at all. 🤷 And since the cake and desserts were technically part of the package, he actually discounted our total by $367 the amount they claimed their own cake would have cost. As for the other sweets? Those will be provided by their usual local bakery.

Look, everyone brings their own cake, but usually we grab one from a bakery—you know, because they actually provide a receipt and handle the tax stuff properly.
You should probably just ask if it needs to be a professional purchase with a formal receipt, or if a homemade one from a godmother or a neighbor would fly.

I’m from San Francisco, and honestly, everyone here is obsessed with paperwork; they won't touch anything made outside the country. We’ve checked around at several different spots, and no one will allow it, whether you're looking at a restaurant or a rented event hall. It’s fine if you're just talking about cakes during the warmer months, but when it comes to dry cookies, it's just completely ridiculous.

Hey guys, I could really use some help here—I’m trying to get a handle on what a decent three-tier wedding cake actually costs these days. $667 I’ve already scouted a few local bakeries, and the quotes are all over the place, ranging from $350 up to
. 😢Also, if anyone has a lead on where to find an actually incredible cake in San Francisco, please let me know. I feel like I've been asking everyone I know, but I just can't seem to track down the perfect one...

Why don't you check out the Wedding on the Mediterranean Coast thread?
A three-tier cake in Chicago runs at least $800—give or take—for about 100 people.

Thanks for the heads-up. I actually scoured that specific thread, but honestly, I didn't find much of anything useful. Everything I see advertised online is just some massive commercial bakery using pre-made doughs and artificial creams that taste absolutely fake, and I’ve always been a sucker for something made from scratch. I did track down one small local boutique that claims to do everything homemade, but they quoted me a price for a two-tier cake that was just completely absurd $667. I wouldn't even bother leaving them a review because, frankly, the thing looked terrible—it was all covered in cheap meringue swirls and little bows, and I'm pretty sure an amateur could do a better job myself. It’s just way too much money for something that looks that tacky...

Does anyone happen to know where to find some actually decent pastries here in San Francisco? My main issue is that everything feels way too mass-produced—it’s like they all use the exact same dough and fillings, so every single dessert ends up tasting identical... I’d really love a solid recommendation if anyone has one.

Google actually comes in handy sometimes 🤣
Everyone keeps raving about those crunchy pastries at the bakery over by the Mediterranean Coast marina, but I have no clue what they're actually like—their website won't load for some reason 🤷
I guess they probably just have the regular stuff too 😁

I know the place, and honestly, their praline crunch is top-tier, but their other cakes are pretty mediocre at best... plus, I'm crossing the praline cake off my list entirely because there is nothing worse than watching a bunch of wild wedding guests absolutely demolish a cake like a pack of wolves.
Back to the drawing board for me...😉

What about Delta?
I actually spent some time flipping through the Mississippi Delta dessert catalog, and I have to admit, their cakes look absolutely stunning on the outside. I was seriously considering placing an order because their prices seemed pretty reasonable, too. But honestly, every single person I mentioned them to ended up spitting them right back out, claiming they just use those cheap, pre-made boxed mixes for the batter and the frosting and then just toss in some flavoring to mask the taste. At this rate, I'm going to end up completely losing my mind over cake.

I mean, in this day and age, most places probably do exactly that anyway.🤷

A frendica of mine just had her wedding recently, and I actually ended up being pleasantly surprised by their cake.

So, I’ve been reading through all these posts where everyone claims they’ve already sampled every single cake from the cream filling. Meanwhile, I’m just sitting here staring at a catalog I picked up, basically making my decisions based on how pretty things look and just praying the taste actually follows suit... I’m really not looking to overcomplicate this whole ordeal, so I’ll probably just go with that wedding cake from the Mississippi Delta, and then to cover all my bases, I’ll grab some extra treats from that local boutique baker—you know, the one whose stuff I know is top-tier, totally homemade, and flourless. That way, I can actually satisfy everyone! Now, since you guys have been so helpful, I’ve got another question for you. Does anyone have any recommendations for other cookie places I should check out? With that lady, a pound is $33, and everything she makes is just dry cookies. Honestly, it's the most expensive stuff in town.

Just go ahead and taste the cake!
Pick a flavor and ask them for a sample. Or just grab a slice and see for yourself. 🤷
